Job summary

Community Charter School in Stanley, North Carolina seeks an Elementary Exceptional Children Teacher. The role reports to CPC Head of School and supervises teacher assistants as needed.

Job Description

REPORTS TO: CPC Head of School

SUPERVISES: May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.

PURPOSE: Plan, organize, and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Management of Instructional Time: Prepare materials, supplies, and equipment before each lesson; start the class quickly; maintain high student time‑on‑task.
  • Management of Student Behavior: Establish and enforce rules for participation, movement, and transitions; monitor behavior in all instructional activities; address inappropriate behavior promptly while maintaining student dignity.
  • Instructional Presentation: Review prior materials, introduce objectives, and deliver lessons using clear language and relevant examples; adjust pacing; facilitate smooth transitions; summarize key points.
  • Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance: Set clear standards and due dates; circulate to check student progress; use oral, written, and other products to assess understanding.
  • Instructional Feedback: Provide timely correction and reinforcement; confirm correct responses; offer probing or cues for incorrect responses.
  • Facilitating Instruction: Align instructional plans with curriculum goals and assessment data; maintain accurate records; utilize available resources effectively.
  • Interaction within the Educational Environment: Treat all students fairly; collaborate with students, co‑workers, parents, and the community.
  • Performing Non‑Instructional Duties: Execute assigned duties; adhere to laws, policies, and regulations; pursue professional development.
  • Additional Job Functions: Perform other related work as required.
Training and Experience

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university; full educational license preferred.

Qualifications and Standards

Physical Requirements: Use a variety of classroom equipment and tools; lift, carry, or move objects with negligible force; light work load consistent with standing and walking duties.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Monitor student safety and well‑being, especially during inclusive activities.
  • Motivate students and maintain a clean, orderly environment.
  • Perform general clerical duties and maintain basic files and records.
  • Follow oral and written instructions and establish effective working relationships.
  • Operate common office machines.
