Job summary

Sawyer Elementary General Education Associate, within Ames Community School District, Ames, Iowa, is seeking a part-time role for the 2026-2027 school year. The position offers 20-25 hours weekly, with a 9.5-month schedule and a pay rate of $15.75 per hour.

Under administrator supervision, you will support teachers, assist students, manage behavior, and help maintain a safe, organized classroom environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to relate to children of various ages and needs.
• Patience, compassion and caring relationship with children.
• Basic computer skills including word processing, Google Docs, internet search and email.
• Professional written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Willingness to follow policies and procedures and work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Assists students with interpreting and following teacher directions.
• Supports students with assignments during independent work or stations.
• Works with individuals or groups to reinforce learning.
• Assists with collection and preparation of materials for lessons.
• Maintains student records and daily documentation.
• Supervises and enforces discipline per supervisor's directions.
• Assists with medical, health, or behavior needs as instructed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
