Job summary

Midland Independent School District is seeking an Elementary Counselor for Bunche One Elementary in Midland, Texas. This exempt position supports guidance and counseling services, classroom guidance, and student placement within the district.

The counselor will collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators, provide counseling and responsive services, participate in ARD meetings, and help coordinate orientation for new students and program outreach.

Qualifications

• Hold an appropriate Texas counselor’s certificate, or eligible for a permit.
• Certified at the level of assignment based on a bachelor’s degree.
• Two years of classroom teaching experience preferred; school counseling experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interprets and shares information about student achievement and progress with parents, teachers, and other professionals.
• Works closely with teachers to identify at-risk behaviors in students for intervention.
• Responds to parent and/or student inquiries via telephone or in person.
• Conducts required classroom guidance activities on a scheduled basis.
• Informs staff and community about the guidance program and related activities.
• Coordinates a program for new student orientation and assists with placement.
• Maintains communication between home and school to support student development.
• Provides information to the public regarding guidance programs and coordinates referrals to community resources.
• Offers counseling services, including individual and group activities, to meet student needs.
