Job description

Waynflete School seeks an experienced elementary educator beginning with the 2025-2026school year as a full-time teacher/advisor in a team-organized, multi-age, interdisciplinary, thematic program. Candidates should possess a collaborative and creative spirit and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing 12-15 students in a home station as the primary classroom instructor
  • Building effective relationships with students, families, and colleagues
  • Working closely with a team of grade-level professionals and support specialists toward collective goals and shared initiatives
  • Teaching structured literacy classes informed by the science of reading, mathematics (Illustrative Mathematics), social studies (Maine State Social Studies and Social Justice Standards) and SEL (Character Strong)
  • Incorporating Responsive Classroom principles of positive behavior, restorative practices, and interactive learning structures to create a class culture and pedagogical framework
  • Utilizing a backward design approach to the Common Core-informed curriculum and developing essential questions and learning targets as part of the EC-12 continuum
  • Differentiating instruction in service of equity and inclusion
  • Crafting formative and summative assessments to inform data-driven instruction and monitor student progress
  • Participating in professional growth activities and serving on committees as determined by all-school, divisional, and personal goals
  • Understanding the continuum of child development
