Job summary

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools seeks an Elementary Teacher Assistant to support instructional activities at Ephesus Elementary School. The role focuses on assisting the classroom teacher, preparing materials, and supporting student learning throughout a 10-month schedule.

The position emphasizes maintaining a positive classroom environment, assisting with behavior management, and communicating with parents under the teacher’s guidance. Experience with children is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have either 48 semester hours of education earned/passed, or 7 credits in at least two core subject matter (English, Math, Writing) and passing "Proficiency Certificate for Teacher Assistants" assessment test scores (WorkKeys)
• High School Diploma/GED required
• Associate's Degree preferred
• Previous experience working with children preferred

Responsibilities

• Assist the classroom teacher with individual, small, or large groups of students
• Reinforce learning and devise strategies based on student needs
• Guide independent study, enrichment or remedial activities
• Distribute and collect workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction
• Assist with behavior management as directed by the teacher
• Communicate with parents as directed by the teacher maintaining confidentiality
• Supervise students during meals, bus duty, drills, field trips and class times
• May substitute for the teacher when needed and support substitutes as needed
