Title: Elementary Behavior Support Teacher Level IV

Qualifications: Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with an EI or CI endorsement

Job Goal:

To meet the educational needs of students on caseload and to comply with the special education requirements including but not limited to; completion of evaluations, and reports, participation in meetings, development of educational goals, delivery of services, and consultation with appropriate individuals.

Responsibilities:
  1. Individualize instruction and classroom practices to meet the unique needs of students.
  2. Develop activities in the classroom, school building, and in the community as appropriate to meet the needs of the students and provide supervision of students during school hours.
  3. Maintain effective communications and relationships with students, parents, administrators, school personnel, and community representatives.
  4. Demonstrate effective management of student behavior using district-approved techniques and maintain a safe and orderly classroom.
  5. Maintain accurate and timely records.
  6. Evaluate student performance using formal and informal assessments.
  7. Maintain a written lesson plan for instructional activities using and integrating technology.
  8. Demonstrate skills to meet the needs of students using equipment, materials, and resources.
  9. Consult and coordinate with support staff to ensure effective instructional programming.
  10. Effectively participate in meetings, committees, staffing, and other required district activities, including but not limited to; parent/teacher conferences, IEPs, school improvement, team meetings, department meetings, and professional development.
  11. Follow prescribed building emergency procedures including but not limited to; tornado, fire, crisis, medical, and abuse/neglect.
  12. Inform the Supervisor of Special Education immediately of emergencies, accidents, or illness and document on appropriate district report forms and submit to the Supervisor.
  13. Prepare for and participate in the IEP and MET process.
  14. Comply with Medicaid billing procedures.
  15. Maintain confidentiality.
  16. Be aware of various augmentative/assistive devices and techniques and utilize them in the classroom whenever possible.
  17. Be able to address the specific needs of students, including tube feeding, bottle feeding, ventilating, etc., as parents and doctors deem necessary.
  18. Dispense and record student medications and communicate regularly with the school nurse.
  19. Directly oversee paraprofessionals.
  20. Participate in CPI, CPR, AED, and First-Aid training.
  21. Must be able to lift thirty (30) pounds.
  22. Required to have a physical presence at the designated job site each scheduled work day.
  23. Other duties as assigned.
  24. Adhere to Board Policies and Procedures.
Reports to: Supervisor of Special Education/Principal

Evaluation: The performance of this job will be evaluated per the provisions established by the Administration.

This is a full-time, certificated position within the professional staff bargaining unit and following the BIEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
