Elementary Assistant Principal

Minimum Salary (pro-rated for the 2026 - 2027 School Year): $79,775

Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the Elementary School Principal, the successful candidate will assist the Principal in providing leadership and supervision in administering the educational program of George G. Blaisdell Elementary School in order to promote the educational development and achievement of students in accordance with District and School policies/procedures, administrative procedures, rules/regulations and applicable law. To serve as Principal in the absence of the Building Principal.

Essential Functions
  • Assists in the development and administration of school programs consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Provides leadership and direction to staff with regard to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of educational programs, including curricular and extra-curricular activities.
  • Promotes a school environment that is safe and conducive to individualized instruction, cooperative curriculum development, and student learning.
  • Assists in the preparation of class schedules, master schedules, extracurricular activities, etc.
  • Assists in ensuring that Board policies and procedures are implemented and followed at the school level.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge through various means.
  • Encourages staff to continue to grow professionally and to experiment with new approaches or strategies to teaching.
  • Assists in coordinating the work of school staff and school district program leaders to develop and implement instructional programs and teaching practices.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and works with teaching staff to modify instructional methods to fit students' needs, including students with special needs.
  • Assists in the recruitment and selection of employees, the proper maintenance of employee personnel files, the administration of collective bargaining agreements, corrective action, and other human resource issues.
  • Involves staff in the evaluation of programs and the planning of new programs.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective, professional and polite communication with students and parents.
  • Ensures that student conduct and attendance conforms with the District requirements and expectations.
  • Supervises and evaluates teaching staff and other building employees in accordance with the District and State evaluation requirements, and makes recommendations regarding goals, areas needing improvement and continued employment.
  • Assists in the budgetary and financial affairs of the school consistent with school district policies.
Additional Duties

Performs other tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Qualifications Profile

Certification/License:

  • PA State Principal Certification (preferred) or the ability to obtain certification through PDE Principal (72) Alternative Route (described below)
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
  • Holds a baccalaureate degree from a regionally or nationally accredited college/university.
  • Satisfies the requirements set forth in section 24 P.S. § 12-1209 relating to good moral character.
  • Provides verification of three years of relevant professional experience. For the purpose of this section, relevant professional experience is "professional experience in an educational setting that is related to the instructional process."
  • Provides verification of an offer of employment as a principal, vice principal, or assistant principal from a Pennsylvania public school.
  • Within two years of issuance, the Administrative Provisional I certificate holder must convert to the Administrative I (75) certification by either:
    • Completing a Pennsylvania-approved, graduate-level principal certification program that includes an internship/practicum or an equivalent out-of-state program. A 3.0 program Grade Point Average (GPA) is required; and
    • Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of school law and regulations by presenting evidence of satisfactory achievement on the Pennsylvania required test.
    • OR
    • Providing proof of completion of a PDE-approved Pennsylvania Inspired Leadership (PIL) Induction Program; and
    • Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of school law and regulations by presenting evidence of satisfactory achievement on the Pennsylvania required test.
Education
  • Masters Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in School Administration.
Experience
  • Extensive, successful teaching experience.
  • Successful experience as an administrator preferred.
