Job summary

Rite of Passage seeks a Teacher for Childhelp, Alice C. Tyler Village in Lignum, VA. You will plan and deliver instructional services to students with emotional and behavioral needs in a residential setting.

A Bachelor's Degree and VA Teaching Credential (Special or General Education) are required; provisional licenses accepted. Schedule is Mon–Fri, 7:30 am–3:30 pm with comprehensive benefits and a $1,000 training bonus.

  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and classroom management.
  • Ability to pass background check, drug screen, TB test.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction to students with emotional/behavioral disabilities; manage behavior and assess progress.
  • Participate in IEP/ETP meetings and develop therapeutic teaching strategies.

Childhelp is a psychiatric residential treatment facility that specializes in the treatment of children aged 5-14 with mild to severe trauma or neglect, psychiatric disorders, and neurodevelopmental disorders. Our unique location on a 270-acre farm provides a nurturing treatment setting with a variety of therapy resources. Pay: Starting salary at $58,746, Depending on Education and Experience

What you will do: As a Teacher you would be responsible for planning and effectively implementing instructional programs to students requiring services outside of the public school environment You will provide related academic instruction and educational services to students with emotional and behavioral disabilities; manage student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement, and modifies instructional activities, as required for either single or multi-grade level, subject, skill, or specialty oriented. You will be responsible for a case load of students requiring special education services. Participate in meetings as requested, including IEP, ITP, ETP development and team planning meetings, staffing, and Teacher’s meetings, sharing information and opinions. Participates in the writing of either an Education Treatment Plan (ETP) or Individual Education Plan (IEP) and facilitates the development and implementation of therapeutic teaching strategies that correspond with the Plan.

To be considered you should:

  • Have a Bachelors Degree
  • A VA Teaching Credential in Special Education or General Education. We will help with Credentialing if you are not currently certified.
  • Possess a knowledge of:
    • Instructional strategies and how they can be employed to deliver curriculum and assess student learning
    • Various methodologies and research related to learning and working with at-risk, high school aged youth.
    • Effective classroom management techniques and behavioral management styles that result in understanding of how to manage and teach to various learning styles
  • Have the ability to:
    • Establish a teaching rapport with students, which results in student achievement in all program areas
    • Diagnose, prescribe and evaluate student progress on an ongoing basis
    • Collaborate with staff to deliver consistent curriculum and implement a team approach to working with students
    • Confront inappropriate behavior appropriately and take the necessary action as outlined in the program procedures
  • Be able to pass a criminal background check, drug screen, physical, and TB test.

Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:30 am to 3:30 pm
