Job summary

Great Oaks Legacy Charter School in Newark is seeking dependable AmeriCorps members to serve as Elementary AmeriCorps Tutors, providing literacy and math support to elementary students and helping every student feel they belong and can succeed.

As a tutor, you will support ELA and math interventions, reinforce lessons, lead mini-centers, help students use approved learning tools, record progress, and participate in onboarding and training. Must complete 1,200 hours by June 17, 2027.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; AmeriCorps eligibility requirements.
• U.S. citizenship, U.S. national status, or lawful permanent resident status.
• Ability to provide eligibility documents and clearances before service.
• Tutoring, mentoring, coaching, youth development or literacy experience preferred but not required.
• Commitment to service, equity, and student success.
• Reliability, professionalism, and consistent support.

Responsibilities

• Support assigned students during ELA, math intervention, RTI programs, including Power Up and Saturday Academy.
• Reinforce teacher-led lessons through prompts, feedback, and targeted one-to-one or small-group support.
• Lead math centers, fluency routines, or conferences and conduct reading-fluency conferences with approved materials.
• Help students use i-Ready My Path and other approved learning tools productively.
• Build professional relationships and report safety or student-welfare concerns.
• Prepare materials, record attendance and progress data, and attend onboarding and training.
