Job summary

Amarillo ISD Avondale Elementary in Amarillo, Texas, seeks an Elementary AEP Instructional Assistant to supervise students assigned to Alternative Educational Placement and provide behavioral and academic support under the direction of a certified teacher.

The role requires strong communication, the ability to maintain an orderly classroom, completion of required education/credentials, and willingness to follow district safety protocols. Starting immediately with full-time hours.

Qualifications

• Minimum Education/Certification: High School Diploma and meet the District’s formal academic assessment required by ESSA
• Associates degree (or higher) OR 48 college credit hours
• Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate
• Meet the rigorous standard of quality required by the district

Responsibilities

• Work closely with classroom teachers in AEP to maintain an orderly, structured classroom.
• Provide ongoing academic and behavioral support to students.
• Intervene with approved Handle with Care techniques when necessary to prevent injury.
• Distribute and check student assignments for accuracy; maintain student files.
• Supervise students during lunch and bathroom breaks; maintain confidentiality.
