Job summary

McGard in Town of Orchard Park, NY is seeking an Electroplating Lab Technician to support plating operations on the 3rd shift (10:00 PM – 6:30 AM, Sunday–Thursday). The role focuses on maintaining process parameters, ensuring high-quality plating, and assisting operators with training while adhering to safety and DOT training requirements.

Candidates should have a high school diploma, strong math and mechanical aptitude, and the ability to follow written and spoken instructions in English.

Responsibilities

• Assist in setup and maintenance of plating operations to ensure high-quality deposition.
• Assist Plating Operators and Utility Workers in training.
• Run daily analysis on plating processes to verify concentrations and additions.
• Perform tests and daily data entries for baths and plating properties.
• Test baths for surface tension, brighteners, pore count, concentration, stress and tensile testing, pH adjustments, etc.
• Troubleshoot plating process issues using lab techniques.
• Operate and calibrate equipment such as metering pumps and pH meters.
• Perform plating adhesion tests and report results.
• Complete internal sample submission testing and reports.
• Sign off on parts release to McGard and complete required safety training (HAZWOP).
• Run test racks on the R&D plating line.

Your Schedule

• 3rd shift, 10:00PM – 6:30AM, Sunday – Thursday
• Ability to work overtime during the week and Saturdays as needed.

About The Position

• Assists in set up and maintaining of all parameters of the plating operations. Maintains a deposition of plating of the highest quality for superior marketability and fewer defects.
• Assist Plating Operators and Utility Workers in ongoing training.
• Run daily analysis on varied plating processes to ensure proper concentrations and additions.
• Perform tests, as well as daily data entries to files on baths and various plating properties.
• Perform various plating baths analysis such as surface tension, brightener, pore count, concentration, stress & tensile testing, pH adjusts, etc.
• Trouble shoot various plating process issues using laboratory techniques.
• Operate and calibrate equipment such as electric metering pumps, pH meter indicator, X-ray, etc.
• Perform plated adhesion tests per customer required specification.
• Complete internal sample submission testing and reports.
• Test and report on the quality of internal and outside plating process.
• Sign off parts release to McGard.
• Must complete D.O.T. hazardous material training and hazardous material emergency response training (HAZWOP).
• Run test racks on the R & D plating line.

Requirements

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Strong math and mechanical aptitude.
• Understand and execute routine written and verbal instructions with minimal supervision.
• Able to communicate effectively in English both written and verbally.
• Proven record of exemplary attendance.
• Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Regular use of a respirator. Must pass Respirator Protection and Fit Testing.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Background of Chemistry education and/or experience.
• Experience in a lab setting (i.e. knowledge of equipment and procedure).
• Experience in electroplating process.
