Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job description

Responsible for patient specimen testing, quality control, quality improvement, and equipment maintenance in the electrophysiology department. Assists physicians in diagnosing and treatment of patients with electrical arrhythmias with EP studies and ablations. Operates and troubleshoots electrophysiological recording and mapping systems and RF ablation.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Assists physicians in the performance of various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the electrophysiology labs.
• Constantly monitors and observes the patient throughout the procedure and keeps the nursing staff and the physician aware of the emotional and physiological response of the patient to the procedure.
• Calibrates and operates recorder and computer for accurate recording and analyzing of data obtained.
• Preps patient and sets up equipment needed for all procedures.
• Scrubs and assists physician during various EP procedures and implants while maintaining sterile technique.
• Documents all events during the procedure on the electrophysiology log.
• Collects data on the patient prior to the procedure to assist with nursing assessment.
• Operates dynamap, stimulator, ablation unit, programmers, recording system, surgical cautery and other equipment used during the various procedures and implants.
• Removes both femoral and brachial arterial or venous sheaths and maintain digital hemostasis.
• Monitors and records data, work with a wide variety of complex computer systems and equipment, including troubleshooting as needed.
• Assists with patient care as needed including cardiac resuscitation procedures and recovery of patients.
• Practices radiation protection; evaluates radiographs for technical quality; assists in maintaining radiation safety.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
• Performs other related duties as required and directed.

Required

• A graduate of a diploma, associate, or baccalaureate academic program in health science (including, but not limited to, cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, or nursing).
• Recent experience in an electrophysiology/catheterization-type lab.
• RCIS/RCES [Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist] from CCI [Cardiovascular Credentialing International]; if not certified upon hire, RCES exam must be successfully completed within six months of eligibility.
• ACLS certification.
