Job Description

Functions as a support specialist within the Heart Rhythm Center providing direct clinical care to EP patients, under the direction of a cardiologist. Prepares EP suite for intricate procedures in a sterile environment, assists cardiologist in performance of EP procedures, and sets up and operates specialized equipment. Actively participates in fostering a safe and high-quality environment for patient, family, physician, and team.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

*All duties listed below are essential unless noted otherwise*

1. Understands and demonstrates proper Universal Protocol.

2. Operate and provide technical support for various generators, stimulators, mapping systems, recording systems and other related technology.

3. Operation of fluoroscopy system within state guidelines and practice radiation safety to include monitoring and logging of dosages.

4. Competently perform Point of Care testing.

5. Assist physician with analysis of electrocardiograph data, performing program stimulation of the heart, inducing, and terminating cardiac arrhythmias by overdrive pacing or DC cardioversion.

6. Sets up and scrubs in to assist physicians in invasive EP procedures and device implants, abiding by AORN guidelines of sterile technique.

7. Assures proper preventative and corrective maintenance for EP equipment.

8. Turns over procedure room following procedures, including appropriate disposal of potential biohazard materials, safe and appropriate handling of reusable supplies and preparation of reusable supplies for sterilization.

9. Assists with orientation of novice team members.

10. Educated and competent to perform Basic and Advanced Life Support measures when necessary. ACLS required in six months from hire date.

11. Maintains confidentiality and security of all PHI in accordance with HIPPA.

12. Accountable to adhere and abide by all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

13. Completes all annual mandatory testing and competencies as directed.

14. Maintains licensure/certification and CEU’s as required per credentialing body.

15. Support ProMedica Health System mission and values.

16. All other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education: Associate degree in health-related science.

Skills: N/A

License: ARRT and/or

Certification: RCES; BLS (Basic Life Support)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor of Science or Health related science

Skills: Experience with Claris recording system; experience with mapping and ablation systems.

Years of Experience: Experience in EP lab

License: N/A

Certification: ACLS

WORKING CONDITIONS

Personal Protective Equipment: Lead apron, thyroid collar. Also, head covering, mask and shoe

covers required in department.

Physical Demands: Able to move about hospital and between workstations. Prolonged periods of standing while wearing heavy protective garments; able to tolerate exposure to radiation, chemicals, blood borne pathogens and bodily fluids; Moving, lifting, stooping and/or carrying moderate weight and objects and materials as required by position. Must be able to cope with stressful situations in a demanding, fast paced medical environment.
