Job Summary

Installs, tests, fits, maintains, services, and repairs electronic components of power and control systems and equipment, and electrical transmission and distribution equipment; designs and modifies electrical and electronic circuits to meet operational needs; and performs other related duties as required.

Responsibilities

Installs, programs, tests, diagnoses, adjusts, modifies, maintains, overhauls and repairs electronic telemetry units and electronic supervisory control systems equipment, which include but are not limited to: radio units and associated electronic radio equipment; electronic control devices and equipment; analog and digital measuring, indicating and recording electronic instruments; electronic circuits and circuit boards; power, lighting and electrical circuits; electric motor control centers; electric motors; air compressors; valves and pumps, as applicable.

Inspects, installs, repairs, overhauls, and calibrates control systems and intercommunicating equipment such as sensing devices, transducers, amplifiers, transmitters, receivers and recorders which utilize mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, thermal, chemical, electrical and electronic components employing multiple function circuits, signal integration, digital to analog conversion, P/I conversion, I/V conversion, potted circuits and solid state circuit boards, and/or electro‑mechanical traffic signal control equipment such as controllers, coordinators, load switches, detectors, signal monitors and flashers, as applicable.

Designs and modifies electronic and electrical circuits to meet varying traffic control requirements and operational needs.

Operates and maintains electrical, electronic, and other testing equipment; reads, interprets and prepares electrical and electronic plans and schematic and wiring diagrams; uses digital computers in the field and in the electronics shop to program and diagnose electronic equipment and instruments; performs bench tests using digital computers and equipment on new electronic equipment; makes sketches and drawings of circuits for records and facilitates maintenance and repair work; modifies electronic and electrical circuitry; estimates time, labor, and materials requirements; maintains work records; recommends modifications to improve or update instrumentation and control system processes.

Qualifications

Training & Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school; and two (2) years of journey level work experience in electronic maintenance operation which demonstrated competency to perform the journey level duties assigned to this class.

Licenses

Possession of a State of Hawaiï journey electrician's or industrial electrician's license; possession of a valid motor vehicle operator license (Hawaii Type 3 or equivalent).
