Job Requisition: Applications and Reliability Engineer (Radiation Monitoring Systems)/Electronics Test Engineer

Department: NUPOW Engineering

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Applications and Reliability Engineer / Electronics Test Engineer to support our nuclear instrumentation and radiation detection product lines. This role is key in supporting pre‑sales activities, ensuring technical compatibility, and maintaining product qualifications through engineering change processes. The ideal candidate will have a background in radiation detection systems and experience in reviewing legacy systems, specifying replacements for obsolete parts, and ensuring the integrity of updated systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support to sales and business development teams by analyzing historical sales data for radiation detection systems in nuclear power plant applications.
  • Assess customer needs and recommend suitable products or solutions based on prior applications and performance records.
  • Identify obsolete components in existing product lines and collaborate with engineering to develop and implement design changes.
  • Manage and document engineering change processes to ensure compliance with product qualification and industry standards.
  • Maintain technical documentation and ensure changes are thoroughly tested and validated.
  • Support production test and assembly technicians.
  • Coordinate with cross‑functional teams including R&D, manufacturing, and quality assurance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Nuclear, Mechanical, Chemical, or related field) or equivalent hands‑on experience with engineering design, radiation detection or analog electronics.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience working as a design, test or application engineer.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with radiation detection equipment.
  • Familiarity with product qualification requirements and industry standards for nuclear applications.
  • Strong understanding of engineering change control processes and component lifecycle management.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and legacy documentation.
  • Able to sit, stand, stoop/kneel and visually inspect skids with pumps, plumbing, field sensors, cabling, enclosures, wiring, printed circuits and electronic components in order to troubleshoot equipment.
  • U.S. citizen or citizen of country to which there is no export restriction for nuclear technology.
  • Able and willing to travel to U.S. nuclear power plant customers and suppliers, adhere to their safety requirements, climb fixed ladders and step over pipes, conduit and other obstructions at customer sites.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a regulated industry (e.g., nuclear, defense, aerospace).
  • Familiarity with U.S. nuclear regulatory frameworks or standards (e.g., 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, ASME NQA-1, IEEE Std 323, IEEE Std 344)
  • Hands‑on experience with qualification testing of nuclear safety‑related equipment (e.g., Environmental, Seismic, LOCA, EMC). Ability to specify and write test plans.
  • Understanding of Process and Area Radiation Monitoring Systems, including scintillator, GM, and ion chamber detectors and corresponding signal electronics. Understanding effects of background measurement, efficiency and sensitivity.
  • Prior experience with an MRP‑type system (e.g., Oracle PLM) system for managing BOM, parts and documents and their associated revisions.
  • Proficiency initiating, evaluating, and checking Engineering Change Requests that may affect form, fit, function and qualifications. Must specify first article test criteria or write justification of similarity/equivalency.
  • Proficiency using AutoCAD to update drawings.
  • Proficiency reading, editing and specifying fabrication drawings, specification control drawings, assembly drawings, electronic schematics, installation drawings, P&ID, instrument loop diagrams, point‑to‑point wiring schematics, ladder logic drawings.
  • Proficiency writing production functional test procedures and Factory Acceptance Test procedures to verify all critical parameters or contractual requirements are within specification.
  • Proficiency evaluating instrument accuracy and calculating total uncertainty of multiple instruments, measurements and factors.
  • Designer who is effective at defining scope, investigating, evaluating, making decisions, then justifying and documenting solutions and corrective actions.
