Job description

Heads Up Technologies is seeking an Electronics Technician to support new product development and design engineering through hands on testing, qualification support, and prototype build activities. Working under the direction of the engineering team, this role helps move products from concept through manufacturing release while collaborating closely with electrical, mechanical, software, and FPGA engineers.

Work Days and Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with flexibility to set the schedule.

Location: Onsite in Addison, Texas.

Position Type: Full time.

Primary Focus: New product development and design engineering support.

Work Eligibility: Must possess unrestricted authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

What you'll do

What You'll Do

  • Set up, instrument, and operate environmental test chambers for temperature, humidity, altitude, and thermal shock testing of new products.
  • Support and execute highly accelerated life testing, including fixture setup, thermal and vibration profile execution, powered functional monitoring, and capture of failure signatures.
  • Support environmental and electrical qualification testing to RTCA DO-160G, including temperature and altitude, temperature variation, humidity, vibration, shock and crash safety, power input, and related sections, both in house and at outside test laboratories.
  • Write, redline, and maintain test plans, test procedures, and test setup documentation, and recommend improvements when a procedure does not match the hardware or intent of the test.
  • Record test results accurately and completely, including data logs, photographs, instrument screenshots, and pass or fail observations, and produce clear test reports and HALT summaries for engineering review.
  • Identify, document, and elevate anomalies and failures observed during testing; support engineers with troubleshooting and root cause analysis; and retest after corrective action.
  • Assemble prototype and engineering development units according to drawings, wiring diagrams, bills of material, and direction from engineering.
  • Perform hand soldering, component level rework, and printed circuit board modifications, including surface mount and through hole parts, blue wire modifications, and component removal and replacement.
  • Fabricate and modify cable and harness assemblies, including cutting, stripping, crimping, soldering, connector termination, shielding, labeling, and continuity verification.
  • Build mechanical and electromechanical assemblies, install hardware, and integrate subassemblies into complete units for testing.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain test equipment and laboratory fixtures, including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, function generators, and data acquisition systems.
  • Maintain calibration status, cleanliness, ESD controls, and general readiness of the test laboratory and prototype build area.
  • Support the transition of new products to manufacturing by providing feedback on assembly, testability, and workmanship and helping validate production test procedures and fixtures.
  • Perform other tasks as needed to support new product development, including expediting parts, kitting builds, and assisting with engineering experiments and demonstrations.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate of Applied Science degree in Electronics or Electrical Technology, completion of a military electronics technical school, or equivalent training.
  • Three or more years of hands on experience in electronics testing, electronics assembly, or a comparable technician role.
  • Demonstrated hand soldering and rework skills on printed circuit boards, including surface mount and through hole components.
  • Experience building and modifying cable and wire harness assemblies, including crimping, connector termination, and continuity verification.
  • Ability to read and work from schematics, assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, bills of material, and written test procedures.
  • Experience with common electronic test equipment, including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, and function generators.
  • Strong written documentation skills with the ability to record test setups, observations, and results clearly enough for an engineer to reproduce them.
  • Excellent attention to detail, disciplined record keeping, and a methodical approach to repetitive test sequences.
