Job summary

The Aerospace Corporation seeks a Parts, Materials, and Processes Engineer (Engineering Specialist - Microelectronics / Semiconductor Engineering) to support NASA GFE Flight Projects and NASA Programs. This on-site role in Houston requires leading PM&P activities, validating selections, and collaborating across teams to optimize BOMs for cost and quality.

Ideal candidates have 8+ years in PMP management, strong customer communication, and readiness to travel ~25%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in materials science, electrical engineering, physics, or another appropriate discipline.
• Eight or more years of demonstrated growth and proficiency in PMP Management and applicable requirements and standards (AEC-Q, NASA and/or national security space).
• Excellent record of customer communication and interaction.
• Willingness to travel domestically/internationally approx. 25% averaged over time.
• Ability to obtain/maintain a secret clearance (US citizenship required to obtain security clearance).

Responsibilities

• Support PM&P program management functions – considering application, standardization, technology, system reliability, maintainability, supportability, and cost in designing or selecting PM&P and addressing availability, logistics support, DMSMS, and legacy issues throughout the life of the systems.
• Validate PM&P selection, screening/testing, qualification based on requirements/specifications, verification of program approved PM&P lists, ensure regulatory compliance, and optimize the BOM to balance cost and quality.
• May lead cross-organizational teams and organize interfaces within department.
• Collaborate with industry colleagues, and component supplier personnel to create/maintain guidance and requirements related to selection, screening, qualification, and root cause failure analysis.
• Act as organization’s designated representative at technical meetings, presentation, and workshops.
• May mentor less experienced staff – as required – and serve as role model.

The Parts, Materials & Processes Department (PMPD) includes subject matter experts across a broad range of areas pertaining to electrical, electronic, and electromechanical (EEE) parts procurement, qualification, application, root cause failure analysis, as well as materials and processes.

PMPD is seeking a Parts, Materials, and Processes Engineer (Engineering Specialist - Microelectronics / Semiconductor Engineering) with proficiency in PM&P management. The candidate will support NASA GFE Flight Projects and NASA Programs. The selected candidate will be required to work full time on-site at our facility at Houston, TX

What You’ll Be Doing

• Supporting PM&P program management functions – i.e., considering the application, standardization, technology (new and aging), system reliability, maintainability, supportability, and cost in designing or selecting PM&P and addressing availability, logistics support, Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS), and legacy issues in supporting them throughout the life of the systems
• Validating PM&P selection, screening/testing, qualification based on requirements/specifications, verification of program approved PM&P lists, ensuring regulatory compliance, and optimizing the bill of materials (BOM) to balance cost and quality.
• May lead cross-organizational teams and organize interfaces within department

What You Need to be Successful – Engineering Specialist

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in materials science, electrical engineering, physics, or another appropriate discipline
• Eight or more years of demonstrated growth and proficiency in PMP Management and applicable requirements and standards (AEC-Q, NASA and/or national security space)
• Excellent record of customer communication and interaction

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

• Advanced degree from an accredited university in materials science, electrical engineering, physics, or another appropriate discipline
• Demonstrated ability to assess AEC-Q or non-MIL PRF parts and develop appropriate methods for use in space and related high-reliability applications
• Hold an active TS/SSBI security clearance
• Proficiency in common root cause analysis tools during problem resolution
• Experience collaborating with contractors, industry working groups, and/or associations such as NASA Electronics Parts Assurance Group, Defense Logistics Agency, Joint Electron Device Engineering Council, Automotive Electronics Council, during the evaluation, selection, and adaptation of active electronic parts for space-related applications
• Possess project management skills in applications such as MS Project, Jira, etc.

Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
