Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking an Electronics Engineering Manager – Radar & Ground-Based Systems – Manager Level 2 to join our team in Colorado Springs, CO.

In this job, you will:
  • Manage a functional team of up to ~15 electronics engineers
  • Serve in a direct program role (e.g., IPT Lead, subsystem lead, responsible engineer)
  • Shape the design and integration of a new ground-based radar enabling Space Domain Awareness (SDA) missions

This is a hands‑on leadership role for someone who wants to blend technical depth with people leadership and program execution.

Team & Functional Management

Provide day‑to‑day leadership, coaching, and performance management for a team of RF and electronics engineers.

Assign work, set clear objectives, and ensure alignment to program needs and department goals.

Develop talent through mentoring, technical guidance, and career development discussions.

Interpret and execute functional procedures and practices; recommend improvements to departmental operating processes.

Directly support department staffing and talent acquisition.

Program & Technical Leadership

Serve as an IPT Lead, subsystem lead, responsible engineer, or equivalent on major radar and ground-based systems programs.

Own cost, schedule, technical performance, and quality for your team’s work packages and subsystems.

Plan and manage engineering scope on complex development contracts or substantial technical services efforts.

Make day‑to‑day technical and execution decisions that support discipline and program objectives.

Radar IPT / Space Domain Awareness

Act as a key member of the Radar Integrated Product Team (IPT) for a next‑generation SDA radar.

Lead and collaborate with cross‑functional radar IPT members through major design and integration milestones:

  • System Requirements Review (SRR)
  • Preliminary Design Review (PDR)
  • Critical Design Review (CDR)
  • Integration point testing, assembly, checkout of radar subsystems

Drive the design, development, and integration of major RF and analog subsystems/components, including:

  • Antennas
  • Transmitters
  • Receivers
  • Waveform generators
  • Other custom and commercial ground‑based electronics equipment
Subcontract & Supplier Management

Provide technical leadership for major subcontractors delivering radar end items.

Define technical requirements, review design and test data, and ensure delivered hardware meets performance, schedule, and quality commitments.

Engage regularly with supplier and customer representatives to resolve issues and maintain alignment.

Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 6 years of professional experience.
  • Requires an active U.S. Government Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope RF system design experience.
  • Ability to work within an RF lab environment.
  • Experience with RF test equipment and measurements (e.g., noise figure, phase noise).
  • Experience with electronic component integration and checkout.
  • Experience reading and developing engineering drawings and electronic Bills of Material (BOMs).
  • Ability to work within an Agile framework.
  • Experience with Atlassian toolsets (e.g., JIRA, Confluence).
  • Familiarity with Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles.
  • Experience working within CAMEO or a similar MBSE environment.
  • Familiarity with technical management of major subcontractors.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% domestically.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or closely related technical discipline.
  • Previous functional management experience.
  • Previous experience working on ground‑based radar systems.
  • Previous experience supporting proposals and developing technical Basis of Estimate (BOE) inputs.
  • Previous experience with one or more of the following:
    • Parabolic antennas
    • Traveling Wave Tube Amplifiers (TWTAs)
    • Arbitrary Waveform Generators (AWGs)
    • RF‑over‑fiber optic media converters
    • Cryogenically cooled Low Noise Amplifiers (LNAs)
    • High‑speed analog‑to‑digital converters (ADCs)
  • Experience with Earned Value Management.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% both internationally and domestically.

Northrop Grumman Total Rewards Primary Level Salary Range: $146,500.00 - $219,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.

In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
