Job summary

EMR Group in Birmingham is seeking an Electronics Engineer – Battery Recycling to join our innovative team. You will program, operate and maintain battery testing equipment and contribute to safe, efficient disassembly and recycling processes.

This role focuses on automation, diagnostic testing, data reporting and continual improvement across new technologies, while ensuring high safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Electronics or mechatronics degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience programming, operating or maintaining automated/robotic systems.
  • Experience in engineering, manufacturing, laboratory, automotive or recycling environments.
  • Knowledge of high‑voltage electrical systems is a plus.
  • Understanding of battery technologies and BMS fundamentals.

Responsibilities

  • Program, operate and maintain battery cyclers for safe testing and discharge.
  • Develop and implement testing scripts for various chemistries and configurations.
  • Support automation within battery disassembly processes.
  • Produce reports and provide updates on testing and discharge activities.
  • Maintain equipment reliability and minimise downtime.

As an Electronics Engineer – Battery Recycling, you'll join our innovative battery recycling team, playing a key role in the safe assessment, testing and processing of industrial battery packs and modules. Working with cutting‑edge technologies, you'll help develop and optimise testing, automation and recycling processes that support the transition to a circular economy. This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer with a passion for electronics, automation and emerging technologies to contribute to pioneering battery recycling solutions while ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality and operational excellence.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Program, operate and maintain battery cyclers to ensure safe and efficient battery testing and discharge.
  • Develop and implement testing and discharge scripts for a variety of battery chemistries and configurations.
  • Support the development and implementation of automation within battery disassembly processes.
  • Produce operational and utilisation reports, providing clear updates on battery testing and discharge activities.
  • Support the continuous development of team capability across new technologies and processes.
  • Diagnose equipment faults and collaborate with Battery Engineers to resolve technical issues.
  • Complete accurate process records to maintain full traceability
  • Maintain high equipment reliability and minimise downtime through effective maintenance.
  • Deliver accurate documentation and traceability throughout the testing and recycling process.
About You

We're looking for someone who brings a combination of technical expertise, curiosity and a commitment to continuous improvement.

  • HND, degree or equivalent qualification in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related discipline.
  • Experience programming, operating or maintaining automated or robotic systems.
  • Experience within engineering, manufacturing, laboratory, automotive, battery or recycling environments.
  • Knowledge of automotive high-voltage electrical systems.
  • A sound understanding of battery technologies and battery management fundamentals.
  • Experience assembling and disassembling complex electro‑mechanical components.
  • The ability to set up and operate diagnostic and electrical test equipment.
  • Strong fault‑finding and analytical problem‑solving skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
