Job description

This position is part of the Office of the Chief Information Officer, Department of Energy. As a Electronics Engineer, you will provide strategic direction and vision for applying technology to enhance the mission of the Department of Energy and are responsible for leading multiple programs to investigate and influence the deployment of services, build coalitions, and develop public-private partnerships across the enterprise.

You must meet both the Basic Requirement and the Specialized Experience to qualify for this series as described below. See the Education section for the Basic Requirement.

Specialized Experience Requirements

A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-13 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting 2 of the 3 of the following

  1. Serving as a technical expert to analyze, evaluate, and resolve complex or unprecedented problems in advanced electronics engineering projects. This includes developing solutions for issues where standard practices are often insufficient and providing authoritative technical consultation to project teams and senior leadership.
  2. Applying experimental research and analysis to investigate and develop innovative engineering applications, methods, or technologies. This involves conceiving, designing, and conducting studies to advance the organization's technical capabilities.
  3. Authoring and presenting detailed technical documentation to justify and communicate complex engineering information. This includes creating formal reports, technical specifications, or strategic plans for review by senior management, clients, or external stakeholders.

"Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
