Overview
We are seeking a full-time Electronics Assembler (2nd Shift) in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for assembling electronic components, subassemblies, and systems, as well as testing their electronic functions using test equipment and procedures.
Essential Functions
- Read shop orders, follow production work instructions, sample assemblies, and receive verbal instructions regarding duties to be performed.
- Position and align parts in specified relationships using jigs, fixtures, or other holding devices with hand or power tools.
- Tend machines or use hand and power tools to secure parts via crimping, staking, bolting, riveting, welding, soldering, cementing, press fitting, or similar operations; perform operator-level preventive maintenance on machines.
- Mount assembled components such as transformers, resistors, capacitors, ICs, and sockets on chassis, panels, or printed circuit boards.
- Connect component lead wires to printed circuits or route and connect wires between components, using soldering, welding, or related bonding procedures.
- Install finished assemblies or subassemblies into cases and cabinets.
- Assemble and attach hardware like caps, clamps, and knobs to assemblies using hand and power tools.
- Perform intermediate assembly tasks such as potting, encapsulating, cleaning, coating, epoxy bonding, curing, stamping, and color-coding.
- Tend machines that press or shape parts and perform preventive maintenance.
- Tend automatic assembly equipment and conduct various tests on products, including functional, operational, environmental, and life tests.
- Connect units to test instruments, read measurements, identify defects, and record defect types and quantities.
- Report any undesirable or nonconforming conditions to management and follow documented procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the work area, properly label materials, and ensure a tidy work environment at shift end.
- Possess high dexterity and eye coordination for manipulating delicate equipment and parts.
- Ability to bend, twist, lift up to 30 pounds safely, stand for entire shifts, and walk long distances.
- Sit, stand, look down, bend, twist, and use hands with dexterity for up to 10 hours.
- Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail are required for machinery operation.
- Comply with Garmin's attendance policy (HRD-003).
- Wear Garmin-provided personal protective equipment, including SD shoes, to minimize electrostatic discharge risks.
- Olathe associates must adhere to DOT requirements.
Basic Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- High dexterity and eye coordination for manipulating buttons, switches, and tools on delicate equipment.
- Ability to bend, twist, lift up to 30 pounds, stand for an entire shift, and walk long distances.
- Ability to sit, stand, look down, bend, twist, and use hands with dexterity for up to 10 hours.
- Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail for machinery operation.
Desired Qualifications
- 2+ years of assembly experience.
- Soldering skills (certification desirable).
- Experience with Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and Through-hole Technology (THT).
- Knowledge of IPC-610 standards for electronic assemblies.
