Troubleshoots and maintains electrical, SCADA, and control equipment for the well field, Purification Plant, Water Pollution Control Plant, water storage towers, and booster station.
BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists in the development of the budget and makes recommendations for purchases and capital items to the appropriate division during the annual budget process.
- Troubleshoots and repairs electrical service to any facility within the Utilities Department.
- Troubleshoots and repairs control circuits at any facility within the Utilities Department.
- Troubleshoots and repairs SCADA equipment at any facility within the Utilities Department.
- Programs SCADA and control circuits at any facility within the Utilities Department.
- Instructs users of SCADA and control circuits at any facility within the Utilities Department.
- Calculates electrical loads for equipment and installs wiring.
- Determines equipment and supplies required for jobs by reading code books and blueprints.
- Keeps abreast of changes in the Electrical Code and Regulations and makes recommendations on their impacts to the City.
- Maintains inventory of supplies used and replaces as needed.
- Performs Operations & Maintenance duties as assigned.
- Performs related duties as required.
Physical requirements include sitting, standing, and transporting oneself between buildings. Ability to drive to various work sites. Work may be performed in extreme temperatures and involve bending, kneeling, twisting, climbing, and working at heights up to 150 ft. Exposure to hazardous chemicals, electricity, and communicable diseases is possible. Must be able to lift over 50 lbs., climb stairs and ladders, and open access hatches.
Effective communication with employees and the public is necessary. Must be able to read operator manuals, blueprints, and schematics. Skills in operating hand and power tools, performing mathematical calculations, and recording work results are required. On-call availability is expected.
Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, plus two years of experience. A valid Apprentice Electrician's license from Texas or completion of 12 college hours in electronics is preferred. A valid Texas driver's license and a Class 'C' or higher water works license are required.
