Job summary

Aetos Systems, Inc. is seeking a Transmission Electronic Technician in Merritt Island, FL to oversee fabrication, installation, maintenance, and repair of communication systems. You will guide a team, interpret engineering directions, and ensure effective task execution.

The role requires strong knowledge of electrical theory, the ability to read schematics, and compliance with NASA background checks, drug testing, and licensing requirements. On-site work with safety compliance is expected.

Qualifications

Job Summary:

The Transmission Electronic Technician performs work and conveys work assignments, management or engineering directions, and work instructions to an assigned group of employees engaged in the fabrication, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, modification, programming, routing, removal, controlling, and repairing communication systems.

The Transmission Electronic Technician performs technical work and conveys engineering and management directives to an assigned team. This group handles the fabrication, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, modification, programming, routing, removal, and repair of communication systems.

Alongside technical duties, the technician directs daily workflow, assigns tasks, and monitors team progress. The role coordinates technical staff with engineering and management, serves as a customer-contractor liaison, reports project status, and recommends solutions for operational issues. Consulting with engineers, managers, and work originators, the technician helps refine plans and verify task feasibility.

The position handles difficult or critical troubleshooting independently or under on-site engineering guidance. Additionally, the technician assists with creating and executing a structured On-the-Job Training (OJT) program, mentors junior staff through direct coaching, and tracks OJT assignment completions.

General Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate with other crafts to ensure job completeness and to assist with troubleshooting.
  • Assess and restock inventory, refurbish telephones and peripherals, excess damaged or unrepairable property, and perform inspections of equipment as necessary.
  • Read and interpret work orders, drawings, schematics, and notes.
  • Using test equipment, manufacturer manuals, internal documentation, reference and operating procedures, and schematics, troubleshoot and isolate problems at the Line Replacement Unit (LRU) or component level.
  • Fabrication, installation, problem diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of telecommunication systems and equipment.
  • Process support request requirements for Paging and Operational Intercommunication System (OIS), including cable and equipment fabrication. Including the installation and repair of headsets, cable fabrication, and connector potting.
  • Perform software upgrades on sustaining systems.
  • Install, maintain, test, and troubleshoot transmission systems used to transmit analog or digital data signals over copper wire, optical fiber, Ethernet, or other transmission medium.
  • Provide, update, and maintain all required documentation, reports, and logs, etc., manually or in electronic databases.
  • Make recommendations to improve work quality, efficiencies, and productivity.
  • Adhere to OSHA, NASA, Company, and customer safety requirements.
  • May assist in training others.
Requirements
Required Minimum Education and Years of Experience:
  • Associate of Science*or Technical Trade School* in Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field. Experience may be substituted for Education: 1.5 years of related experience is equivalent to 1 year of formal education
  • Six (6) years of related experience or successful completion of a State- or Military-approved bona fide work-related apprenticeship program recognized by the US Department of Labor
Required Skills, Qualifications, Technical Experience, Certifications, etc.:
  • Employees working at this level typically require an understanding of electrical theory, exercising independent judgment in performing circuit diagnostics and analysis
  • Workers must be able to read and have a comprehensive understanding of electronic schematics
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to pass a NASA background investigation
  • Must be able to pass an initial and random drug test
  • Must have and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License
Physical Requirements
  • Requires working indoors and outdoors.
  • Outdoor conditions may include cold and hot temperatures, high humidity, and windy conditions.
  • Certain job assignments require special precautions and/or protective gear or clothing due to potential risk from sources such as moving machinery, chemicals, and electrical hazards; working from special rigging, working from heights, climbing ladders and other work platforms, and working in confined and small spaces restricting physical movement.
  • Often requires lifting to 35 - 50 pounds and working on uneven surfaces, and standing for long periods.
  • Requires repetitive movement, bending, stooping, twisting, and working in awkward positions.
  • Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. Lighting conditions may be inadequate in some work locations.
  • Ability to recognize or interpret differences in wire and cable colors.
  • Ability to receive and transmit auditory information using telecommunication or electronic devices
  • May require working 2nd or 3rd Shift.
