Job summary

Aetos Systems, Inc. on Merritt Island, FL, is seeking a Transmission Electronic Technician to fabricate, install, troubleshoot, and repair telecom systems.

You will interpret drawings, perform software upgrades, and ensure safety and documentation compliance in a NASA-related environment. Requires 4+ years of experience or an approved apprenticeship, an AS/technical degree in electronics or related field, and US citizenship with NASA background eligibility.

Qualifications

  • AS or technical trade in electronics, telecommunications or computer science required.
  • Four years of related experience or a bona fide apprenticeship recognized by the US DOL.
  • Must be a US citizen eligible for NASA background investigation.
  • Must pass initial and random drug testing.
  • Must hold a valid Florida Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with other crafts to ensure job completeness and assist with troubleshooting.
  • Assess and restock inventory, refurbish telephones and peripherals, inspect equipment.
  • Read and interpret work orders, drawings, schematics and notes.
  • Troubleshoot at LRU or component level using test equipment and manuals.
  • Fabricate, install, diagnose, repair and maintain telecom systems and equipment.
  • Process requests for Paging and OIS systems including cabling and connectors.
  • Perform software upgrades on sustaining systems.
  • Install, maintain, test and troubleshoot transmission systems over copper, fiber, or Ethernet.
  • Maintain documentation and logs in databases.
  • Suggest ways to improve quality, efficiency and productivity.
  • Adhere to OSHA, NASA, company and customer safety requirements.
  • May assist in training others.

The Transmission Electronic Technician fabricates, installs, maintains, troubleshoots, modifies, programs, routes, removes, controls, and repairs communication systems including Transmission Systems. This is a represented staff position with the IBEW Union.

Job Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with other crafts to ensure job completeness and to assist with troubleshooting.
  • Assess and restock inventory, refurbish telephones and peripherals, excess damaged or unrepairable property and perform inspections of equipment as necessary.
  • Read and interpret work orders, drawings, schematics and notes.
  • Using test equipment, manufacturer manuals, internal documentation, reference and operating procedures and schematics, troubleshoot and isolate problems at the Line Replacement Unit (LRU) or component level.
  • Fabrication, installation, problem diagnosis, repair and maintenance of telecommunication systems and equipment.
  • Process support request requirements for Paging and Operational Intercommunication System (OIS) including cable and equipment fabrication. Including the installation and repair of headsets, cable fabrication and connector potting.
  • Perform software upgrades on sustaining systems.
  • Install, maintain, test, and troubleshoot transmission systems used to transmit analog or digital data signals over copper wire, optical fiber, Ethernet or other transmission medium.
  • Provide, update, and maintain all required documentation, reports, and logs etc., manually or in electronic databases.
  • Make recommendations to improve work quality, efficiencies, and productivity.
  • Adhere to OSHA, NASA, Company, and customer safety requirements.
  • May assist in training others.
Required Minimum Education
  • Associate of Science or Technical Trade School in Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Experience may be substituted for Education: 1.5 years of related experience is equivalent to 1 year of formal education.
Required Experience
  • Four (4) years of related experience or successful completion of a State or Military-approved bona fide work‑related apprenticeship program recognized by the US Department of Labor.

  • Understanding of electrical theory, exercising independent judgment in performing circuit diagnostics analysis.
  • Ability to read and have a comprehensive understanding of electronic schematics.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to pass a NASA background investigation.
  • Must be able to pass an initial and random drug test.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
Physical Requirements
  • Requires working indoors and outdoors.
  • Outdoor conditions may be in cold and hot temperatures, high humidity, and windy conditions.
  • Certain job assignments require special precautions and/or protective gear or clothing due to potential risk for such sources as moving machinery, chemicals, and electrical hazards, working from special rigging, working from heights, climbing ladders and other work platforms and working in confined and small spaces restricting physical movement.
  • Often requires lifting up to 35‑50 pounds and working on uneven surfaces, and standing for long periods.
  • Requires repetitive movement, bending, stooping, twisting and working in awkward positions.
  • Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. Lighting conditions may be inadequate in some work locations.
  • Ability to recognize or interpret differences in wire and cable colors.
  • Ability to receive and transmit auditory information using telecommunication or electronic devices.
  • May require working 2nd or 3rd Shift.
