Job summary

The University of Texas at El Paso seeks a Facilities Technician in the Facilities Management department to install, repair, and inspect electronic systems including fire alarm panels, access control, and emergency power generators on site in El Paso, TX. You will coordinate with other trades, maintain records, and provide on‑call coverage as needed, with a 40-hour workweek and occasional evenings or weekends.

A valid driver's license and an associate degree or equivalent are required.

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate’s degree or equivalent from two year college or technical school.
  • Experience: Three years of related experience or equivalent combination.
  • Knowledge of Fire Alarm Panels, NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, NFPA 72 Fire Alarm Codes, Networking (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, RJ45) and protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair and inspect electronic components and fire alarm panels and access control systems.
  • Perform emergency services and schedule preventative maintenance and inspections.
  • Coordinate with other trades and supervisors from start to finish and maintain records of repairs and tests.
  • Be available for on‑call duties and occasional overtime.

Position Information

Hiring Department: Facilities Management

Reports To: Associate Director of Facilities Operations

Job Location: El Palo, Texas (On Site)

Posting End Date: Open until filled. This posting may close once a sufficient number of qualified applications have been received.

Hours: 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm. Flexibility is required on evenings and weekends.

FLSA status: Non-exempt

Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and education.

Position Summary

Installs, repairs and inspects electronic components. Performs emergency services and schedules preventative maintenance and inspections on fire alarm panels with all of their peripheral devices (power supplies, wiring, and initiating and notification devices). Installs, maintains and repairs electronic access control systems such as; automatic electrical controlled vehicular gates, accessible electronic door openers and their peripheral devices (wireless tx-rx push buttons, loop detectors, card readers, and voice intercoms). Performs inspections on the emergency electric generators, report and record the status data. (Run time, oil level, fuel level, coolant level and troubles). Estimates labor and material cost; reports the estimate to superior and work order initiator. Tests, diagnoses and repairs faulty equipment according to the product’s specifications and applies knowledge of functional operation of electronic units and systems. Coordinates with other trades and department supervisors on work projects and be able to lead them from beginning to end. Maintains records of repairs, calibrations, and tests. Must be available on an "On Call" basis. Overtime may be required. Has knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and be able to learn and use institutional software systems. Complies with all State and University policies. Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Education: Associate’s degree or equivalent from two year College or technical school within area of assigned responsibility.
  • Experience: Three years of experience related to the statement of duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of Fire Alarm Panels, NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, NFPA 72 Fire Alarm Codes, Networking Connections and Functions (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, rj45 pinout and protocols).
Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of Siemens DESIGO Building Automation Platform.
