Job summary

Dallas Water Utilities is seeking an Electronic Technician to perform installation, operation, repair, and maintenance of electronic equipment across water pumping stations and related systems. The role requires field testing, troubleshooting, and documentation to ensure reliable operation.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Evaluates performance and reliability of electronic equipment and conducts testing, troubleshooting and repairs to ensure proper operation.

• Prepares documentation and maintains records of maintenance activities; schedules and monitors workload; ensures supplies and equipment are available for assignments.

Be part of a team that’s committed to service, innovation, and community.**Job Summary**The Electronic Technician performs journey level technical work involving installation, operation, repair and maintenance of a wide variety of electronic equipment for communications, traffic signal control, flood control, water pumping stations or related electrical equipment to ensure efficient operation.**Job Description****Overview**The Electronic Technician performs journey level technical work involving installation, operation, repair and maintenance of a wide variety of electronic equipment for communications, traffic signal control, flood control, water pumping stations or related electrical equipment to ensure efficient operation.**Essential Functions****1** Evaluates performance and reliability of electronic equipment by applying electronic theory, principles of electronic circuitry, testing procedures, and related knowledge to install, build, test, troubleshoot, repair and modify equipment.**2** Repairs and replaces defective electronic equipment such as communication equipment, traffic signal lights and signs, sound or lighting equipment, and telecommunication equipment or related components to eliminate malfunctions.**3** Tests electronic components, circuits, and faulty equipment and applies knowledge of functional operation of electronic units and systems to diagnose cause of malfunction; performs various tests and implements various testing methods to evaluate soundness of all pumps, motors, and related equipment; performs alignment activities, general maintenance, and effective technical work to correct deficiencies or issues.**4** Prepares, drafts, and creates operating documentation to ensure an accurate records are maintained; uses various systems to schedule and monitor completion of daily work load, generates and disseminates maintenance requests and completes shop logs and time sheets.**5** Drives and operates vehicles and other equipment to facilitate repairs, maintenance, and inspection services; loads tools and material onto vehicle to ensure material is available to install or repair equipment.**6** Takes inventory and orders equipment; ensures supplies and all electronic equipment is available to successfully complete assignments.**7** Replaces electronic components in motors and water pumps at pumping stations; performs calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting on equipment for water control, water quality, and chemical handling; works on an emergency basis and works efficiently to minimize risk and resolve issues.**8** Communicates and engages effectively with various personnel, operations, and maintenance groups to address issues, provide technical direction, and resolve electronics problems quickly and professionally.**9** Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.**Knowledge and Skills****1** Thorough knowledge of Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations controlling operations and checking of base station and mobile two-way radio equipment.**2** Thorough knowledge of the operation and function of a variety of traffic signal controllers and related equipment.**3** Thorough knowledge of sound and lighting equipment operations.**4** Thorough knowledge of Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations controlling operations and checking of base station and mobile two-way radio equipment.**5** Thorough knowledge of the operation and function of a variety of traffic signal controllers and related equipment.**6** Thorough knowledge of sound and lighting equipment operations.**7** Thorough knowledge of electronic theory and practice involved in the installation, testing, diagnosis, and repair of complex electronic circuitry.**8** Ability to identify and differentiate among color coded electronic components.**9** Ability to use a variety of standard electronic and electrical testing instruments and tools.**10** Ability to read and comprehend wiring diagrams and schematic drawings related to electronic equipment.**11** Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.**12** Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:****EDUCATION:*** High school diploma or GED.**EXPERIENCE:*** Two (2) years of experience in the installation, testing, diagnosis, and/or repair of electronic or related electrical equipment.**EQUIVALENCY:*** Associate degree or higher in an electrical or electronic technology field will meet the education and experience requirements.**LICENSE****:*** Some positions require a valid driver’s license and good driving record.**OTHER REQUIREMENTS:*** Some positions require an extensive background check.**Salary Range**$49,254.40 - $55,348.80The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.City of Dallas is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
