Job summary

Alstom in the United States is seeking an electronics technician to support electrical design and electro-mechanical testing in a lab environment.

You will program automated testing machines, interpret drawings, and perform basic soldering while assisting in test specification development and data reporting. This role requires familiarity with SAP and standard test equipment, with opportunities to grow in a global mobility company.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate with electronics training or two years of college in engineering/science
  • Willingness to perform basic soldering and operate standard test equipment
  • Ability to read drawings and wiring diagrams and apply electronic theory
  • Experience with SAP for data management is a plus

Job description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Performs a variety of repetitive and non-repetitive tasks associated with electrical design and electro-mechanical testing of new equipment and new product prototypes in a lab environment.
  2. Runs and programs automated testing machines (DITMCO) for harness and component testing.
  3. Provides technical assistance to other personnel in the operation of computers, electronic equipment and various test applications.
  4. Performs first level testing, using standard equipment, and analyzes results to evaluate performance and determine need for adjustments.
  5. Builds, operates and modifies non-standard equipment and test fixtures. May recommend new equipment materials or procedures to improve product quality or reliability.
  6. Communicates with internal and external customers.
  7. Programs integrated circuits (ic chip, eprom, etc.).
  8. Performs mechanical calibration of systems and equipment.
  9. Develops fixturing and schematic drawings.
  10. Assists in writing, programming or modifying test specifications using standard procedures and/or computers.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, Licenses and Certifications
  • Reads and interprets drawings, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings and engineering instructions while applying knowledge of electronic theory and components.
  • Performs basic soldering.
  • Uses advanced electronic test equipment such as waveform analyzer, programmable power supply, etc.
  • Understands written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents.
  • Communicates effectively in verbal and written communication methods as appropriate.
  • Uses a computer's scroll bars, mouse, and dialog boxes to work within the operating system. Accesses and switches between applications and files of interest.
  • Performs basic troubleshooting and determines causes for test failures.
  • Possesses working knowledge of basic electrical components, advanced circuitry and schematics, safety procedures when working with voltage greater than 70 DC, and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD).
  • Uses Alstom specific computer databases such as SAP to manage large amounts of information, input data, retrieve specific records, and create reports to communicate the information.
  • Utilizes Microsoft Excel to enter, manipulate and format text and numerical data; insert, delete and manipulate cells, rows and columns; and create and save worksheets.
  • Uses Microsoft Word to type text, format, edit, print, save and retrieve documents.
Education and/or Experience
  • High school graduate plus two years additional education in an electronics technical school or two academic years of college in engineering/science or equivalent.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently works in a standing position.
  • Frequently lifts loads of 40 lbs or less.
  • Occasionally bends and positions self to access tight spaces.
  • Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder.
  • Frequently handles, feels, operates and controls objects, tools or controls.
  • Frequently repeats the same physical and mental activities.
  • Frequently observes gauges, dials or other indicators to ensure a machine is working properly.
  • Requires wearing personal protective equipment including steel-toe shoes and safety glasses.
  • Constantly responsible for the health and safety of others.
Working Conditions
  • Occasionally works in outdoor weather conditions at field sites or suppliers.
  • Travels on an as needed basis.
