Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Execute and oversee installation, programming, commissioning, and advanced troubleshooting of electronic security and access control systems with complete independence.
  • Lead installation or service teams on medium to large projects, providing direction and coordinating tasks.
  • Serve as senior field escalation point for complex technical issues across multiple platforms.
  • Provide expert-level configuration, firmware validation, and optimization of security platforms.
  • Conduct advanced system testing, validation, and performance optimization.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to forecast material needs and schedule field coordination.
  • Interpret drawings and specifications; identify discrepancies and propose field-appropriate solutions.
  • Prepare documentation including timesheets, test results, redlines, and closeout packages.
  • Mentor and train Technicians I-III in installation methods and system configuration.
  • Represent GC&E professionally during customer interactions and provide technical briefings.

GC&E Systems Group is seeking a highly experienced Electronic Security Technician IV to serve as a senior technical expert supporting the installation, commissioning, service, and optimization of complex electronic security systems. This advanced‑level technician can operate with full autonomy, provides expert‑level troubleshooting, and frequently leads installation or service teams on medium to large projects. The Technician IV serves as a field‑based subject matter expert (SME), offering deep technical guidance across CCTV, access control, intrusion detection, intercoms, electronic locking hardware, wireless locks, cloud‑based security platforms, and copper/fiber cabling, while working closely with Project Managers to ensure technical accuracy, schedule alignment, and successful project execution.

This role requires exceptional technical proficiency, strong leadership capability, and the ability to coordinate effectively with Project Managers, engineers, subcontractors, and customers. The Technician IV is expected to anticipate field challenges, propose solutions, and ensure that installations and system configurations meet the highest standards of quality, performance, and compliance.

Essential Job Functions
  • Execute and oversee installation, programming, commissioning, and advanced troubleshooting of electronic security and access control systems with complete independence and technical mastery.
  • Lead installation or service teams on medium to large projects, providing direction, assigning tasks, and ensuring work is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with project specifications.
  • Serve as the senior field escalation point for complex technical issues, diagnosing and resolving advanced system failures across multiple platforms.
  • Provide expert‑level configuration and troubleshooting support, including advanced system setup, parameter adjustments, firmware validation, resolution of major technical issues, and optimization of complex security platforms as required by project conditions.
  • Conduct advanced system testing, validation, and performance optimization; recommend and implement corrective actions or design adjustments as needed.
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers to forecast material needs, identify risks, and support schedule planning and field coordination.
  • Interpret engineered drawings, specifications, riser diagrams, and technical documentation; identify discrepancies and recommend field‑appropriate solutions.
  • Ensure all assigned work meets GC&E quality standards, contractual requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Prepare and complete all required documentation, including timesheets, service acknowledgements, material transfers, test results, redlines, and closeout packages.
  • Support in‑house assembly, advanced system testing, and pre‑deployment configuration activities.
  • Mentor and train Technicians I-III, providing guidance on installation methods, system configuration, troubleshooting, and professional field conduct.
  • Conduct customer demonstrations, system orientations, and technical briefings for end users and stakeholders.
  • Maintain expert‑level proficiency across multiple security platforms and demonstrate the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies, firmware updates, and system integrations.
  • Represent GC&E professionally during customer interactions, providing clear, confident explanations of system functionality, installation progress, and technical findings.
  • Provide advanced technical input to engineering and sales teams for system design, job layouts, scope development, and complex cost estimates.
  • Perform and lead preventive maintenance inspections (PMIs), ensuring thorough documentation, preparation of PMI reports, and communication of recommended corrective actions.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, field efficiency, and quality enhancement; provide recommendations to management.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by management to support project and organizational objectives.
Candidate Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel as required and work during standard or assigned hours.
  • Expert‑level understanding of access control, CCTV, intrusion detection, and related security technologies.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and redline engineered drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency with advanced test equipment, diagnostic tools, and digital measurement instruments.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide teams, manage field activities, and support multiple concurrent tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Minimum of 12-15+ years of experience installing, configuring, commissioning, and troubleshooting electronic security systems.
  • Demonstrated experience leading installation or service teams and resolving complex technical issues independently.

Additional preferred skills:

  • Expert knowledge installing and troubleshooting electronic locking hardware
  • Technical College training
  • Familiarity with BICSI and RCDD design standards; ability to interpret RCDD‑developed drawings and specifications.
  • Manufacturer certifications in access control, CCTV, or IDS
  • Advanced IP networking knowledge (VLANs, PoE, routing, switching)
  • Experience with cloud‑based physical security platforms
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying environmental conditions (heat, cold, humidity, etc.).
  • Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and working on ladders or lifts.
  • Ability to use PPE and work safely around electrical and construction environments.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and work in physically demanding conditions for extended periods.
