Job summary

Tusco, Inc. is seeking an experienced Electronic Security Estimator to join our Madison, AL team. You will develop accurate estimates and proposals for electronic security and low-voltage projects, reviewing drawings, scopes, and specifications to ensure competitive bids.

You will collaborate with Sales, Project Management, Operations, and vendors to validate costs and feasibility, perform takeoffs, and communicate clear proposals for complex systems.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience estimating electronic security or low-voltage systems.
• Experience estimating projects with access control, CCTV, intrusion, or structured cabling.
• Ability to read construction drawings, security drawings, specifications and scopes.
• Experience obtaining and evaluating pricing from vendors and subcontractors.
• Proficiency with Excel and Office suite.

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate estimates and proposals for electronic security projects.
• Review RFPs, drawings, specs, scopes, equipment schedules and project documents.
• Perform material, equipment and labor takeoffs.
• Estimate systems including access control, CCTV, intrusion, intercom and cabling.

We are currently seeking:Electronic Security Estimator

Position Overview

Tusco is seeking an experienced Electronic Security Estimator to join our Electronic Security team in Madison, AL. The Estimator will be responsible for developing accurate and competitive estimates and proposals for electronic security and low-voltage projects.

This position will review drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project requirements; perform material and labor takeoffs; obtain vendor and subcontractor pricing; identify scope requirements and potential risks; and develop complete estimates that accurately reflect the work required to successfully execute each project.

The Electronic Security Estimator will work closely with Sales, Project Management, Operations, Engineering, vendors, subcontractors, and field personnel to ensure estimates are accurate, complete, and practical from both a cost and installation standpoint.

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and detailed estimates and proposals for electronic security and low-voltage projects of varying sizes and complexity.
• Review RFPs, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, equipment schedules, and other project documents to determine project requirements.
• Perform detailed material, equipment, and labor takeoffs.
• Estimate systems including access control, video surveillance/CCTV, intrusion detection, intercom and communication systems, structured cabling, electronic perimeter security, and other low-voltage systems.
• Interpret construction, security, electrical, and low-voltage drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
• Obtain and evaluate pricing from manufacturers, distributors, vendors, subcontractors, and other partners.
• Develop labor estimates based on project scope, system complexity, installation requirements, and field conditions.
• Identify scope gaps, exclusions, assumptions, conflicts, and potential cost risks before estimates are finalized.
• Research products, equipment, and system requirements when project documents are incomplete or unclear.
• Participate in site walks, pre-bid meetings, and project walkthroughs as needed.
• Collaborate with Sales and Project Management to clarify scope and ensure estimates accurately reflect customer requirements.
• Work with field and installation teams to confirm that proposed systems, materials, labor, and installation methods are practical and achievable.
• Prepare professional proposals, bid summaries, and supporting documentation.
• Manage multiple estimates and deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
• Assist Project Management and Operations with the transition of awarded projects from estimating to project execution.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience estimating electronic security or low-voltage systems.
• Demonstrated experience estimating projects involving access control, video surveillance/CCTV, intrusion detection, structured cabling, or related electronic security systems.
• Strong understanding of materials, labor, equipment, and installation requirements for electronic security and low-voltage projects.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, security drawings, specifications, equipment schedules, and technical scopes.
• Experience performing material and equipment takeoffs and developing labor estimates.
• Experience obtaining and evaluating pricing from vendors, manufacturers, distributors, and subcontractors.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
• Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with internal teams, vendors, subcontractors, and customers.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience estimating commercial, industrial, government, military, or high-security electronic security projects.
• Experience with federal or government project specifications and bidding requirements.
• Familiarity with electronic security manufacturers and platforms such as Avigilon, DMP, Honeywell, Genetec, Axis, Bosch, Verkada, or similar systems.
• Experience with estimating, takeoff, or construction management software.
• Experience reviewing security system risers, one-lines, device schedules, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials (BOMs).
• Relevant manufacturer certifications, NICET certification, or other industry certifications.
