Reporting to the Assistant Director of Collections for Electronic Resources and Licensing, the Electronic & Continuing Resources Librarian provides leadership and expertise in the acquisition, licensing, access management, and ongoing evaluation of electronic resources. This position plays a central role in negotiating and managing licenses for databases, electronic journals, e-books, data sets, and emerging digital content that support the University of Georgia’s research, teaching, and public service mission. The incumbent contributes to library-wide collection strategies, vendor relationships, and assessment initiatives, and serves as a key point of contact for license interpretation and use rights throughout the organization.
An ALA-accredited Master’s in Library and Information Science or relevant terminal degree.
Leads electronic resource management activities, overseeing the licensing, procurement, renewal, and troubleshooting of continuing resource materials in various formats, such as print and electronic journals, databases, microforms, and other resources. Serves as a primary point of contact for access problems for library staff and UGA students, faculty, and staff, and develops proactive processes to identify electronic access issues before they become problems for users.
Designs and implements effective workflows incorporating current technologies and standards. Applies knowledge of professional best practices while staying current with trends in electronic resource management, licensing, access models, scholarly publishing, and academic librarianship, adapting strategies as needed.
Supports collections budget management by maintaining accurate continuing resources data and ensuring responsible resource stewardship. Assists with fiscal transactions related to the budget and develops expenditure data to inform collection development decisions.
Hires, trains, and evaluates approximately 2 staff, while coordinating workflows and ensuring clarity of responsibilities. Sets performance goals aligned with Library objectives and communicates them effectively. Develops training workshops on continuing resources processes for team members and relevant library staff.
Collaborates with vendors, publishers, and consortia partners to negotiate favorable pricing for resources and fosters strong working relationships. Resolves issues related to access, orders, receiving, and payments with vendors.
Notifies vendors of renewal and cancellation decisions. Keeps the Academic Engagement, User Services & Resources Sharing teams informed about new resources, cancellations, outages, and other changes, ensuring timely communications with appropriate user communities.
Stays professionally engaged by pursuing research and scholarly endeavors to advance knowledge and contribute to the field. Participates in relevant local, national and state-wide professional organizations. Participates in library-wide planning and governance, contributing effectively to a collaborative decision-making environment.
