Job summary

FM Industries in Tempe, AZ seeks an Electron Beam Welding (EBW) Operator to set up and calibrate equipment, execute welding procedures, and ensure quality in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

You will follow WPS/PQR, prepare machines, load parts in the vacuum chamber, monitor beam parameters, document results and contribute to continuous improvement while upholding safety and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Highschool diploma or technical training.
• Prior experience in precision welding or electron beam processes.
• Experience with quality inspection methods (NDT, visual, dimensional checks).
• CNC basic programming knowledge - G/M code proficiency for EBW operation.
• Technical training in welding, machining or manufacturing processes.
• Ability to interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions.
• Knowledge of blueprint reading and welding symbols.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Semiconductor industry or other manufacturing experience preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Perform pre-weld inspection, assembly and fixture parts.
• Comprehend weld drawings, WPSs and PQRs.
• Interpret and follow welding schedules, blueprints and technical drawings.
• Prepare and configure EBW machine per WPS/PQR.
• Load and secure workpieces in the vacuum chamber.
• Perform vacuum pump-down and ensure proper chamber pressure.
• Set beam parameters (voltage, current, focus, travel speed) per WPS/PQR.
• Monitor beam alignment and focus during welding.
• Adjust machine settings to maintain weld quality.
• Inspect welds using DT and NDT methods and document results.
• Document weld parameters from DAQ and inspection results for traceability.
• Perform routine maintenance on EBW equipment and vacuum system.
• Diagnose and resolve issues with beam stability, vacuum leaks or power supply.
• Keep accurate maintenance logs.
• Comply with safety laws, company policy and safe work practices.
• Perform additional related duties as assigned.
