Job summary

BD, a leading global medical technology company, is hiring an Electromechanical Technician for the night shift in Columbus, Nebraska. You will maintain and optimize production equipment, troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems, and support continuous improvement projects alongside Controls Coordinators and Process Engineers.

You’ll work with PLCs, robotics, and machine vision systems, ensuring safety, quality, and alignment with BD Quality Systems.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Electromechanical Technology or equivalent
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Experience troubleshooting automated production equipment highly desirable
  • Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills

Shift:

Night Shift, 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM. Rotating 12-hour schedule using a 2-2-3 pattern

Job Summary

The Electromechanical Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing production equipment and facility systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role supports continuous improvement initiatives and small-scale engineering projects while collaborating with Controls Coordinators and Process Engineers to implement enhancements to manufacturing processes. The technician ensures compliance with BD Quality Systems, policies, procedures, and all applicable local, state, federal, and company safety requirements. Regular attendance, effective communication in English, and a commitment to BD's Values are essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support Controls Coordinators and Process Engineers with the implementation of process improvements involving mechanical systems, electrical systems, controls programming, robotics, and machine vision technologies.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical and mechanical equipment, including pneumatics, electric motors, variable frequency drives, and servo systems.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance tasks to maximize equipment reliability and performance.
  • Diagnose, maintain, and repair Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
  • Maintain and repair robotic systems and automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain industrial communication networks.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance, calibration, and validation activities in accordance with established standards and procedures.
  • Manage and maintain machine and equipment spare parts inventory.
  • Train and instruct machine operators on proper equipment operation, preventive maintenance practices, and safety procedures.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and technical support to fellow associates.
  • Respond to equipment issues outside of normal working hours on an as-needed call-in basis.
  • Update and maintain Quality System documentation as required.
  • Troubleshoot and repair manufacturing equipment to optimize performance, quality, and uptime.
  • Support additional business needs and special projects as assigned.
Minimum Education
  • Associate's Degree in Electromechanical Technology or a related technical field required.
Minimum Experience
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting and maintaining automated production equipment is highly desirable.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of PLC programming, controls systems, and industrial automation.
  • Experience with robotics and machine vision systems.
  • Understanding of industrial networks and communication protocols.
  • Proficiency with fabrication techniques and equipment.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and technical documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze problems, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement principles.
