Job summary

Nestlé Health Science in Long Island, NY is seeking a Mechanic A to keep production and facility equipment running at peak performance. You will perform advanced mechanical, electrical, and electronic repairs and troubleshoot complex systems.

You will mentor lower-level technicians, drive safety, efficiency and reliability, and support maintenance programs, with on-shift schedule Monday–Friday 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; technical training preferred.
• 5+ years in manufacturing with 8+ years maintenance experience.
• PLC familiarity and ability to read schematics.

Responsibilities

SHIFT/SCHEDULE:

This role operates on the 1st shift, with a schedule of Monday - Friday, 7:00AM - 3:30PM.

ONBOARDING SCHEDULE:

To ensure a successful start and seamless integration into the team, this role includes a structured 4–5-day onboarding program, typically scheduled from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. All new employees are expected to complete this onboarding during their first week.

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Mechanic A, you’ll take the lead in keeping our production and facility equipment running at peak performance. You’ll handle complex repairs, troubleshoot issues across multiple systems, and support continuous improvement efforts. As a subject matter expert, you’ll also mentor others and help drive safety, efficiency, and reliability across the site.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform advanced mechanical, electrical, and electronic repairs
• Troubleshoot and maintain pneumatic, hydraulic, and steam systems
• Lead or support root cause analysis and problem‑solving projects
• Monitor and maintain plant systems (boilers, compressors, HVAC, etc.)
• Use manuals, drawings, and technical resources to diagnose issues
• Maintain organized workspaces and inventory areas
• Support emergency repairs and scheduled maintenance
• Train and mentor lower-level technicians
• Follow safety rules, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and company policies
• Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or GED required; technical school or journeyman background preferred
• 8+ years of maintenance experience, including 5+ years in manufacturing
• PLC programming experience preferred
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and move throughout your shift
• Comfortable working around powders, chemicals, and food allergens
• Flexible to work overtime based on business needs

SKILLS:

• Knowledge of PLCs (Allen Bradley, etc), with strong understanding of ladder logic.
• Comfortable using CMMS and basic software (Outlook, Excel, Word)
• Experience with SAP, Oracle, AS400, PQM, or Captiva preferred
• Strong attention to detail and organization
• Advanced math and reading skills
• Able to read blueprints and generate rough sketches
• Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, and machine shop equipment
• Knowledge of electrical testing tools and lubrication systems
• Team-oriented, dependable, and self-motivated
• Strong communication and leadership abilities

The approximate hourly pay for this position is $37.44-$38.56 . Please note that thepayrangeprovidedis a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may varybased on factorsincluding but not limited to knowledge, skills and abilities as well as geographic location.
