Job description

Electromechanical Manufacturing Engineer

Summary

We are looking for a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer to support the Systems Manufacturing Group (SMG), which builds complex electro-mechanical assemblies and systems.

The ideal candidate is strong in electrical assembly, system integration, troubleshooting, build documentation, and production support. This is a floor-oriented role that works closely with technicians, engineering, quality, purchasing, and production leadership.

This is not a pure design role. It is a manufacturing engineering role for someone who can help SMG build better, safer, and more repeatable systems.

Responsibilities

  • Support SMG production builds from release through final assembly and test.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and electro-mechanical production issues involving wiring, sensors, solenoids, power supplies, grounding, controls, pneumatics, vacuum systems, heaters, and interlocks.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, cable and harness drawings, mechanical drawings, BOMs, and customer specifications.
  • Create and improve work instructions, test procedures, checklists, troubleshooting guides, and as-built documentation.
  • Support BOM review, redline markups, revision control, ECNs/ECOs, NCRs, and production issue closure.
  • Assist with NPI, first-build readiness, and production readiness for SMG assemblies.
  • Contribute to practical production improvements such as fixtures, assembly aids, test setups, cable routing improvements, tooling, and process changes.
  • Help improve safety, quality, repeatability, build flow, and efficiency in SMG.

Experience / Skills Required

  • Hands-on experience with electro-mechanical assembly or systems integration.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting skills in a production environment.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing floor issues in a high-mix environment.
  • Experience creating or improving manufacturing documentation.
  • Working knowledge of 24 VDC controls, relays, interlocks, E-stops, power supplies, sensors, grounding, and machine safety concepts.
  • Clear communication with production, engineering, quality, purchasing, and customer-facing teams.
  • Calm, organized, floor-oriented, and respectful of technicians and production staff.
  • Able to document fixes, not just solve one-time problems.
  • Able to drive issues to closure without blame.

Experience / Skills That Are Helpful

  • Background in semiconductor equipment, contract manufacturing, medical or life science equipment, automation, capital equipment, or complex electro-mechanical systems.
  • Electrical panel layout, cable routing, harness build, or point-to-point wiring experience.
  • Functional test, power-up, continuity testing, system acceptance testing, or test engineering experience.
  • Exposure to heaters, thermal controls, flow switches, interlocks, sensors, motors, and solenoids.
  • ERP/MRP experience, preferably Epicor or similar.
  • CAD software, especially SolidWorks.
  • Root cause analysis and corrective action experience.
  • Experience supporting first-build reviews, NPI readiness reviews, or production readiness reviews.
  • Familiarity with DOE, structured problem solving, or controlled process experiments.
  • Interest in improving the production system, not just reacting to daily issues.

Education

  • Ideal target: 5-8 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong candidates with 2-5 years and a relevant engineering degree will be considered.
  • Strong candidates with 5-10 years of directly relevant hands-on experience will also be considered.
  • Relevant education may include Electrical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Technology, military electronics, controls, or senior technician experience.
  • Do not over-filter on degree. Practical electrical strength, manufacturing judgment, communication, and documentation discipline are critical for this role.

Target profile: A hands-on Systems manufacturing engineer with strong electrical skills who can support production, troubleshoot systems, improve build/test documentation, and help make complex assemblies easier to build correctly.
