Job summary

Qualifications

  • Engineering Bachelor's degree and 3 years’ experience with Navy, Coast Guard, or Merchant Marine.
  • Engineer with degree in Electrical engineering from an accredited university.
  • Experience with US Navy vessels (preferably nuclear powered ships).
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • An active Secret Security Clearance and U.S. Citizenship.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the program primary expert in Electromagnetic Environmental Effects for carrier systems.
  • Provide technical support and assess risk for NAVSEA SDMs and SEMs.
  • Perform engineering research and problem resolution using carrier operational experience.
  • Prepare responses to technical requests and change notices.
  • Coordinate with engineering authorities and shipyards to resolve technical matters.
  • Review technical data, drawings, and reports to provide recommendations.
  • Develop formal presentations for senior officials.
  • Review ship specifications and propose changes.

We are seeking anElectromagnetic Environmental Effects Engineer

This job is located on-site at the Washington Navy Yard, DC.

This position is in the Aircraft Carrier Design and Systems Engineering Directorate (SEA 05V) at Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA).This position will be at the Washington Navy Yard and serves as an Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) Engineer directly supporting the Nimitz (CVN68) and Ford (CVN78) Class Aircraft Carrier Ship Design Managers (SDMs) and Warfare System Engineering Manager.Occasional travel may be expected in this position.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Act as the program primary expert in the area of Electromagnetic Environmental Effects to systems installed aircraft carriers.
  • Provide technical support and assess risk for technical decisions for Nimitz (CVN 68) and Ford (CVN 78) Class Ship Design Managers (SDMs) and System Engineering Manager (SEM)
  • Provide engineering assessment, research, and problem resolution utilizing Nimitz (CVN 68) and/or Ford (CVN 78) operational experience.
  • Provide responses to requests for technical assistance or adjudication received via letter, Departure from Specification (DFS), Liaison Action Request (LAR), Steam Plant Action Request (SPAR), Availability Work Package (AWP) Change Request
  • Participate and coordinate technical approval letters for Ship Alteration (ShipAlts) and Technical Assessment Team (TAT) reviews for Ship Change Documents (SCDs)
  • Review Technical Feedback Reports (TFBRs) for Planned Maintenance System (PMS) changes requiring Designated Technical Representative (DTR) review
  • Coordinate with Engineering Agents, Technical Authorities, TYCOM, PMS 312, PMS 378, SUPSHIP Newport News, Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY), Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (PSNS), Ship Repair Facility (SRF), & other activities to resolve technical matters
  • Review technical data packages, drawings, reports, logistics products, training, etc. and provide technical recommendations
  • Develop formal presentations to brief to senior officials.
  • Review ship, procurement, and systems specifications and submit proposals for changes
Qualifications
  • (Requirement) Engineering Bachelor’s degree and 3 years’ experience with Navy, Coast Guard, or Merchant Marine.
    • (Desire) Engineer with degree in Electrical engineering from an accredited university
  • (Requirement) Experience with US Navy vessels (preferably nuclear powered ships)
    • (Desired) Worked with or at a shipyard, Naval Surface/Undersea Warfare Center (NSWC/NUWC), Supervisor of Shipbuilding Command (SUPSHIP), Regional Maintenance Center (RMC), and/or Type Commander (TYCOM) supporting construction, operation, maintenance, modernization, and/or repair of shipboard systems
    • (Desired) Experience working with technical authority (e.g. NAVSEA 05 and 08)
    • (Desired) Experience working with program managers (e.g. PEO Carriers, PMS 312, PMS 378, etc.) in an engineering role
    • (Desire) Experience with shipboard networks and systems
    • (Desire) Experience with US Navy, USCG or MSC vessels.
    • (Desire) Preferably experience with aircraft carriers
  • (Requirement) Good technical writing and communication skills
    • (Desire) Strong writing and communication skills
  • (Requirement) An active Secret Security Clearance and U.S. Citizenship
