Job description

Yank Technologies, Inc., a wireless power startup based in Brooklyn, NY, develops long-range, high-power wireless charging technology built on patented coil and amplifier advancements in resonant inductive systems. The company is seeking an Electromagnetic Engineer to lead the design, analysis, and optimization of magnetic structures and resonant systems for near-field wireless power transfer. Serving mobility, industrial, and space customers, Yank Technologies provides scalable solutions across a range of power levels and distances.

Role Overview: Electromagnetic Engineer at Yank Technologies

This is a highly technical, research-oriented position focused on high-current, high-Q magnetic design rather than traditional RF antenna development. The engineer will bridge electromagnetic theory with real-world implementation, working with magnetic and power electronic systems operating in the low MHz range, including 6.78MHz and similar frequencies.

Challenges associated with this role include managing skin and proximity effects, EMI/EMC considerations, and material selection for compact electromechanical integration. The successful candidate will directly influence the next generation of proprietary high-Q resonant coil architectures, pushing the limits of efficiency, alignment tolerance, power density, and system scalability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and optimize high-Q resonant coil systems for wireless power transfer applications operating in the low MHz range (6.78MHz and similar frequencies)
  • Develop custom magnetic structures including inductors, transformers, resonant coils, and shielding solutions for high power density systems
  • Perform electromagnetic analysis focused on coupling, parasitics, losses, thermal effects, and efficiency optimization under real-world operating conditions
  • Collaborate with power electronics engineers on system-level integration
  • Design, prototype, test, and validate magnetic components and wireless power assemblies in laboratory environments
  • Improve coil architectures with emphasis on quality factor (Q), alignment tolerance, manufacturability, thermal performance, and power transfer efficiency
  • Evaluate magnetic materials, conductor technologies, ferrite structures, and packaging approaches for compact wireless power systems
  • Support EMC/EMI analysis and mitigation strategies
  • Work cross-functionally with mechanical, systems, and manufacturing teams to transition designs from prototype to production
Required Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 3+ years of full-time experience in magnetics design or wireless power applications
  • Strong experience modeling and validating magnetic components and resonant structures using tools such as Ansys Maxwell, CST, or equivalent
  • Hands-on experience designing, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing custom magnetic components
  • Experience designing planar magnetics, inductors, transformers, or high-Q coil systems
  • Understanding of skin effect, proximity effect, parasitic behavior, and thermal considerations at high frequencies
  • Laboratory debugging and hardware validation experience
  • US Citizen or US Permanent Resident status
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience in wireless power transfer or resonant power conversion systems
  • Background in automotive, industrial, or aerospace industries
  • High power density application experience
  • Leadership or mentoring experience
  • Prior startup experience
Compensation and Benefits

The company offers competitive compensation including a base salary, healthcare benefits, and stock options.

Application Tips for Electromagnetic Engineering Candidates
  • Portfolio matters: Prepare a technical summary highlighting specific coil designs you have built, including measured Q-factors, efficiency data, and frequency ranges. Quantifiable results resonate strongly in the wireless power industry.
  • Simulation fluency: Be ready to discuss your workflow in Ansys Maxwell or CST. Walk through a past project from FEA simulation through physical prototype validation, emphasizing how you handled discrepancies between modeled and measured parasitics.
  • Material knowledge depth: Brush up on ferrite material selection trade-offs, Litz wire considerations at low MHz frequencies, and shielding strategies. Interviewers may probe your understanding of core loss mechanisms and saturation behavior under high-current conditions.
  • Demonstrate cross-disciplinary thinking: Wireless power systems sit at the intersection of magnetics, power electronics, thermal management, and mechanical packaging. Showcase examples where you collaborated across these domains to solve integration challenges.
  • Industry awareness: Familiarize yourself with relevant standards and ecosystems such as AirFuel resonant charging and SAE J2954 for automotive applications. Understanding where Yank Technologies' patented technology fits within the broader landscape signals genuine interest.

Posted on October 16, 2026, with applications accepted through December 16, 2026, this full-time opportunity places you at the forefront of next-generation wireless power innovation. If you are passionate about advancing proprietary resonant coil architectures in a fast-paced startup environment, this role offers meaningful technical impact.
