The successful candidate will coordinate electrochemical and materials-characterization efforts, engage with customers, and help drive product advancements that meet customer expectations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant engineering/energy field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional or research experience, preferably in R&D or manufacturing.
  • Experience with electrochemical devices, including electrolyzers or fuel cells.
  • Familiarity with electrolyzer components (bipolar plates, porous transport layers, gas-diffusion layers, flow fields).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to travel up to 30%.

Responsibilities

  • Support design, development, and deployment of electrolyzer product solutions.
  • Coordinate internal resources to resolve technical complaints and support customers.
  • Inform customers of technical developments and new features/products.
  • Collaborate with Strategy and Product teams to feed the roadmap and reference designs.

Job description

The Electrolyzers Application Engineer will support the design, development, and deployment of current and future electrolyzer product solutions. This individual must maintain in-depth knowledge of electrolyzer performance targets and understand how component, material, and process selection affects performance, durability, cost, and manufacturability.

Through a strong understanding of electrode components and the coordination of electrochemical and materials-characterization efforts using internal and external resources, the Electrolyzers Application Engineer will help drive continual product advancements that meet or exceed customer expectations.

Responsibilities and Outcomes
Product and Competitive Knowledge
  • Build an in-depth understanding of the product portfolio, product performance, and customer applications.
  • Evaluate the product line and identify gaps in available solutions.
  • Understand the value of the company's solutions and communicate product gaps to the Product Line team.
  • Map competitors and their portfolios, analyze and benchmark competitive products, and develop value curves.
  • Handle customer specifications, participate in design reviews, and support material selection.
  • Understand customer requirements, roadmaps, technology trends, technical challenges, unmet needs, development needs, production processes, and ways of working.
Technical Complaint Resolution
  • Coordinate communication and actions between customers and internal stakeholders when resolving technical complaints.
  • Engage relevant disciplines across the organization to achieve timely resolution.
  • Provide technical assistance on application-, product-, and technology-related topics.
Customer Communication
  • Inform customers of technical developments and the introduction of new features and products.
  • Build relationships with market stakeholders, including customers, peer suppliers, and subject-matter experts.
Internal Product Advisory
  • Work with Strategy, Product Line, and New Product Introduction teams to develop and implement innovative solutions.
  • Provide input for the product roadmap, reference designs, application notes, and customer intelligence to support continuous improvement and next-generation product development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in renewable energy, materials science, electrochemistry, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or a related field.
  • At least five years of relevant professional or research experience, preferably within an R&D or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with electrochemical devices, including electrolyzers or fuel cells.
  • Familiarity with electrolyzer components such as bipolar plates, porous transport layers, gas-diffusion layers, flow fields, and related components.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Exceptional data-analysis and presentation skills.
  • Ability to organize and drive internal customer support, solve key issues under difficult circumstances, establish deadlines, coordinate feedback, evaluate results, and close the loop with stakeholders.
  • Responsiveness to customer inquiries and the ability to anticipate customer questions and requests.
  • Ability to conduct accurate technical analyses and translate findings into practical technical solutions.
  • Ability to work effectively in both self-directed and collaborative environments.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30%.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • A highly driven, goal-oriented approach.

Open to varying levels of seniority from senior engineer upwards.
