Job summary

Alameda Health System in Oakland seeks an Electrocardiograph Technician to perform ECGs, stress tests, Holter monitoring and pacemaker evaluations under supervision. You will prepare patients, apply electrodes, enter data, and assist physicians during invasive cardiology procedures.

The role requires graduation from an approved Electrocardiograph/Cardiology Technician program, BLS certification, and CET/CCT/EKG certification. Relevant experience and patient privacy are essential.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an approved school as Electrocardiograph Technician, Cardiology Technician, or Medical Assistant.
• BLS - Basic Life Support Certification required.
• Possession of CET, CCT, or EKG Technician certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist Cardiologist with invasive procedures as directed.
• Assist Chief Cardiology Technologist with Quality Improvement monitoring activities.
• Explain examination to patient, obtain cooperation, maintain privacy, apply electrodes, attach leads, enter patient data, acquire 12-lead ECG, perform preliminary interpretation, notify MD of life-threatening conditions.
• Maintain files and prepare ECGs for interpretation, including reviewing previous examinations.
• Prepare Holter Monitor procedures, explain to patient, prepare recorder, attach electrodes, and perform preliminary interpretation of recordings.
• Prepare patients for Pacemaker evaluation and assist during invasive procedures.
• Prepare patients for Stress Testing, explain procedure, apply electrodes, enter data, acquire initial ECGs, demonstrate examination, assist with the test.
• Type examination reports using a PC and word processing software.
• Utilize hospital information system to generate orders and for charging examinations.

Job description

SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, operates computer augmented electrocardiograph, stress test equipment and Holter monitor equipment. Performs electrocardiograms, stress tests, Holter monitors and pacemaker evaluations on patients. Performs related duties as required.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• 1. Assists Cardiologist with invasive procedures as directed.
• 2. Assists Chief Cardiology Technologist with continuous Quality Improvement monitoring activities.
• 3. Explains examination to patient; ensures patient cooperation; maintains patient privacy; applies disposable electrodes to patient; attaches leads; enters patient identification into computer; acquires 12 lead ECG; performs rapid preliminary interpretation; notifies M.D. of life-threatening conditions.
• 5. Maintains files.
• 6. Prepares ECG’s for interpretation; includes searching files for previous examinations.
• 7. Prepares patients for Holter Monitor examination; explains examination to patient; prepares recorder; attaches electrodes and reorder; explains diary to patient; performs preliminary interpretation of recording by scanning tape using personal computer.
• 8. Prepares patients for Pacemaker evaluation; instructs patient; prepares computer; assists Cardiologist or Chief Cardiologist with invasive procedures as directed.
• 9. Prepares patients for Stress Testing; instructs patient regarding examination; applies electrodes; enters patient information into computer; acquires initial ECG’s; demonstrates examination to patient; assists Chief Cardiology Technologist with performance of examination.
• 10. Types examination reports from written copy utilizing a personal computer and word processing software.
• 11. Utilizes hospital information system to generate orders and for charging examinations.

PAY RANGE

$38.13 - $45.28/hr

The pay range for this position reflects the base pay scale for the role at Alameda Health System. Final compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licenses and certifications, departmental equity, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and the operational needs of the organization.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Graduation from an approved school as an Electrocardiograph Technician, a Cardiology Technician or Medical Assistant.

Minimum Experience: One year experience as an Electrocardiograph Technician or Cardiology Technician. Required Licenses/Certifications: BLS - Basic Life Support Certification - issued by AHA-American Heart Association.

Required Licenses/Certifications: Possession of a certificate issued by Cardiovascular Credentialing International as a Certified Electrocardiograph Technician (CET) or Certified Cardiology Technician (CCT) or Certified EKG Technician.
