Job description

The position will report to the Hammond field office but is responsible for an area from Manhattan, IL to Irwin, IL, with occasional support as far North as Hammond, IN, and as far South as Decatur, IL. The ideal candidate will live near or around the Kankakee area. Work schedule is typically Monday - Friday; weekend and holiday work are required as part of an on-call rotation. On-call duties generally involve being on-call for 7 days every other week to cover when other technicians are out, covering areas including Decatur, IL, and other locations.


The Electro-Mechanical Technician is primarily responsible for maintaining, repairing, testing, adjusting, and assisting in the installation and removal of electrical, mechanical, communication, control, and measurement equipment at assigned locations. The role involves performing operations, maintenance, and construction tasks to ensure safe pipeline operations and compliance with all company and regulatory standards.


Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Complies with DOT and OSHA health, safety, and environmental requirements, following safety procedures and reporting hazards.
  2. Tests and inspects equipment using specialized mechanical and electronic testing tools.
  3. Maintains mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment, making adjustments and repairs as needed.
  4. Records and analyzes operating data.
  5. Maintains inventory of spare parts, tools, equipment, and company vehicle.
  6. Recommends design changes, provides technical guidance, and suggests proper use procedures.
  7. Communicates with factory technical representatives.
  8. Installs non-contract equipment additions and modifications.
  9. Works with third-party contractors on right-of-way encroachments.
  10. Acts as company inspector on outside contractor projects.
  11. Assists in training new technicians.
  12. Performs additional duties as assigned.
  13. Maintains pipeline right-of-way, terminal, and station facilities.
Requirements:

Education and Experience: An Associate's degree in electronics, electrical, instrumentation, or related technical field, or equivalent experience. Prior experience in operations or maintenance is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to follow safety principles, knowledge of safety procedures and regulations (DOT, EPA, FERC, DHS, OSHA), system operation knowledge, ability to work independently, strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, logical thinking, calmness under stress, and proficiency with various testing tools and computer systems.

Physical Demands: Ability to exert up to 70 pounds, lift at least 50 pounds frequently, operate machinery, and climb ladders. Visual and hearing acuity are required.

Physical Requirements: Normal color vision and hearing are required.
