Job summary

Textron Systems is seeking an Electro-Mechanical Technician to build and troubleshoot electro-mechanical assemblies and cable harnesses in a prototype and production environment. You will interpret complex data packages, inspect builds, and ensure quality, with IPC standards in mind.

This role requires hands-on fabrication, the ability to read advanced drawings, and the capacity to lift up to 50 lbs. Work is in the Textron Systems Air Systems area at the Hunt Valley facility, onsite full-time.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years electro-mechanical or cable/harness assembly experience in aerospace/defense.
  • Experience reading complex electro-mechanical drawings, cable drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics.
  • Ability to obtain IPC/WHMA-A-620, IPC-A-610 and IPC J-STD-001 certifications.
  • Familiarity with military and commercial quality specifications is a plus.
  • Proficient with crimp tools, testers, and assembly tools.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and meet dexterity requirements.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform builds of electro-mechanical assemblies, cable harnesses, and subsystems using drawings and wiring diagrams.
  • Assemble electronic components into larger systems.
  • Fabricate, shield, splice, terminate, and install connectors into cable harnesses.
  • Perform crimping operations with various tools and termination tooling.
  • Use hand tools (soldering irons, wire strippers, torque wrenches) for assembly.
  • Perform soldering operations; IPC J-STD-001 knowledge a plus.
  • Build wire harnesses and electronic assemblies per IPC standards.
  • Adhere to ESD, calibration, shelf-life, and safety procedures.
  • Operate semi-automatic/automatic assembly equipment and verify build quality.
  • Assist in transitioning new products to manufacturing.

About This Role

In this role, the Electro-Mechanical Technician works independently within prototype, and production environments to build and troubleshoot simple to complex electro-mechanical assemblies and cable/wire harnesses. This role requires hands‑on fabrication capability, and the ability to interpret complex technical data packages. Knowledge of IPC workmanship standards is a plus.

Responsibilities
  • Perform builds of simple to complex electro-mechanical assemblies, cable harnesses, and sub‑systems using engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, sketches, and work instructions.
  • Assemble electronic components, such as resistors, capacitors, circuit boards, and wire harnesses into larger systems.
  • Fabricate, shield, splice, terminate, and install connectors into cable harnesses.
  • Perform crimping operations using various crimp tools, tool selectors, and military/commercial‑grade termination tooling.
  • Working with hand tools such as soldering irons, wire strippers, crimpers, wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, and torque wrenches
  • Perform soldering operations. Knowledge of IPC J‑STD‑001 a plus.
  • Build simple to complex wire harnesses. Knowledge of IPC/WHMA‑A‑620 a plus.
  • Build electronic assemblies. Knowledge of IPC-A-610 a plus.
  • Assemble by hand or using semiautomatic/automatic assembly equipment.
  • Adhere to ESD, calibration, shelf‑life, and safety procedures at all times.
  • Operate semi‑complex electro‑mechanical assembly equipment and verify build quality through self‑inspection
  • Assist in the transition of new products to manufacturing.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 2 years relevant electro‑mechanical or cable/harness assembly experience in aerospace, defense, avionics, or similar industries.
  • Experience building and troubleshooting complex electrical and mechanical assemblies.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex electro‑mechanical drawings, cable drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and process documentation.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certifications for IPC/WHMA‑A‑620, with IPC-A-610 and IPC J‑STD‑001 workmanship standards.
  • Familiarity with military and commercial quality specifications a plus.
  • Proficiency using crimp tools, continuity testers, cable testers, and mechanical assembly tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply logical problem‑solving skills to build issues and workflow improvements.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction while maintaining high‑quality standards.
  • Strong attention to detail to effectively assemble and test assemblies
  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with engineers, quality, and other cross‑functional partners.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally and meet manual dexterity requirements for small‑part work.
  • Basic computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance.
