We are currently seeking an Electro-Mechanical Assembly Technician who will be responsible for the physical integration, and precision hand-soldering of high-reliability spaceflight hardware. The candidate will primarily be responsible for mechanical and electrical assembly operations, such as installing structural frames directly onto printed circuit boards (PCBs) and building out complete electronics boxes.

The candidate may perform component preparation (X/Y cutter, thermal putty for heat-pipes, tinning, part layout verification, kit validation), translating blueprints into mechanical assemblies, precision hand-soldering of components to IPC standards, wire attachment, component staking, and masking for conformal coating. Additionally, this role involves chassis integration, mechanical box build assembly, and wire harness fabrication (including crimping and soldering wires) to an engineering drawing and manufacturing traveler. This role focuses strictly on physical assembly and integration; no hardware testing is required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assemble parts into repetitive and non-complex units or subassemblies, utilizing hand tools and soldering iron.
  • Will require some use of voltmeters, scales, holding fixtures, bench tools, automated and manual soldering equipment and special fixtures.
  • Assembly operations are typically performed under a stereo microscope.
  • Follow written/oral instructions from process engineers, manufacturing engineers, and supervisor.
  • May prepare and assemble PC boards, perform component preparation, Dispense / Apply adhesives, and utilize various tools to perform mechanical assembly.
  • Inspect work to ensure that it meets all requirements.
  • Comply with and support all department and corporate policies and procedures including but not limited to Safety, Security and ESD.
  • Inspect product at various stages of process.
  • Create NCMR (non-conforming material review) and perform root cause analysis as needed.
  • Read, interpret and follow detailed work instructions and assembly drawings.
  • Work with and learn from more experienced technicians in areas such as complex mechanical assemblies, soldering, harness routing, inspection, in-process testing, precision cleaning, and structural fabrication.
  • Inspect, assemble, integrate, and operationally check flight hardware, as well as assemble, test, and maintain mechanical systems and components to meet specifications and standards.
  • Use precision measurement tools, ensure components meet specified tolerances while adhering to general best shop practices, including PPE and shop safety requirements.
  • Follow 5S, FOD, and ESD awareness protocols, lift and carry up to 30lbs
  • Collaboration with team members to achieve production goals will also be a key part of your responsibilities.
Certifications, Experience, Technical Skills, Education
  • Certifications: Active or past solder certifications to IPC J-STD-001 (Space Addendum) is required and/or must be obtained within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Experience: Candidate must have at least 5 years of experience in high-precision soldering, electronic box builds, crimping techniques for avionics wiring and connectors and mechanical chassis assembly. Understanding of 5S, FOD, and ESD awareness
  • Technical Skills: Candidate must be proficient with both precision mechanical tools (calibrated torque wrenches, calipers) and hand-soldering equipment under a microscope for extended periods.
  • Education: A High School Diploma or GED is required.
