Class Purpose
Faculty members provide high-quality instruction and studentsupport in accordance with the District's mission of advancingequity, student success, and academic excellence. Faculty areresponsible for delivering engaging, inclusive instruction thatpromotes student learning and achievement while supporting thediverse educational goals of the District's students.
Faculty are expected to use and keep abreast of advanced teachingmethods, including the use of current and future technologies tosupport student learning and career objectives.
Examples of Duties
Examples of duties may include, but are not limited to, thefollowing:
- Provide lecture and laboratory instruction within thediscipline such as electrical theory, residential and commercialwiring, industrial controls, PLCs, motoes and drives, safetystandards and practices, photovoltaic systems, and low voltagesystems in accordance with established course outlines.
- Responsible for teaching a regular classroom assignmentconsisting of a minimum of 15 equated teaching hours per weekincluding ongoing assessment of student learning, tracking studentprogress, maintaining required grade and attendance records, andsubmitting records on time in the manner required.
- Develop and update program curriculum, course outlines, classprojects, and instructional materials as needed.
- Track industry trends and opportunities to add courses andprograms to address new certifications, certificates andlicenses.
- Develop and maintain an effective industry advisory board.
- Assist with the placement of students in industry byinterfacing with industry partners and referring students toopenings.
- Identify equipment and supply needs of the department, securequotes from suppliers, and help maintain inventory of equipment andsupplies needed for instruction.
- Develop and offer distance education or hybrid courses in thediscipline as appropriate.
- Assess course and program level learning outcomes and developand implement instructional improvement strategies.
- Perform professional outreach activities including working withhigh school academies to recruit students.
- Inform students via syllabi concerning course requirements,evaluation procedures, and attendance requirements.
- Grading should be clear and transparent and applied fairly andequitably.
- Maintain necessary attendance, scholastic and personnelrecords, and submit them according to published deadlines.
- Prepare and grade class assignments and examinations andpromptly return them to students.
- Post and maintain required office hours in accordance with theprevailing policy.
- Participate in faculty discussions on curriculum,teaching-learning techniques and teaching materials.
- Participate on departmental, divisional, and campus committees.Develop and revise courses in the discipline.
The Instructor is also responsible for providing a fullprofessional service week that may include, but is not limited to:
- Teaching, teaching preparation, maintenance of office hours andstudent advising, and maintenance of student rosters, class recordsand grade completion in accordance with District policy andprocedures.
- Performing departmental duties such as program and curriculumdevelopment, evaluation and revision, and selecting appropriateinstructional materials, and working with administrators and otherfaculty to develop a comprehensive pre-collegiate program.
- Participation in professional activities such as departmentaland campus committee work, faculty peer evaluations, staff meetingsand participation in the governance structure of the College andDistrict.
- Pursuing professional growth activities to remain current indiscipline and teaching methodology.
- Performing professional outreach activities (e.g., working withadministrators and other faculty, as part of course development anddepending on need, by participating in an industry advisorycommittee for a program, working with inter-segmental educationpartners—such as high school, adult school and other colleges—andindustry partners to design and implement effective basic skillscurricula and career pathways in the discipline, etc.).
- Perform other duties as assigned by the College.
Minimum Qualifications
- Possession of any bachelor’s degree from an accredited collegeor university and four years of professional experience in theelectrical trade (including work as an engineer, journey-levelelectrician, or other work in the electrical industry) OR
- Possession of an associate’s degree from an accredited collegeor university and six years of experience in the electrical trade(including work as an engineer, journey-level electrician, or otherwork in the electrical industry) OR
- The equivalent qualifications. (Candidates who claimequivalency must provide conclusive evidence, as clear and reliableas college transcripts, as required on the District EquivalencyApplication Form. Refer to the Equivalency Procedures. This is nota process to waive the minimum qualifications).
- Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to, andunderstanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural,disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college staff,faculty, and students.
