Job summary

JLL is seeking an internship position in Houston, TX to train in commercial/industrial electrical systems. You will work alongside experienced electricians, learning electrical installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting within a facilities management context.

This paid internship provides a structured learning path, safety training, and exposure to NEC standards, with opportunities to grow into a certified electrician track.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed education in electrical technology, electrical engineering, or related technical field.
  • Basic understanding of electrical theory and electrical safety practices.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and mechanical aptitude.
  • Good mathematical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and safety protocols.
  • Physical capability to work in various positions and environments (ladders, confined spaces, etc.)
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to properly use testing equipment such as multimeters, ammeters, and voltage testers to diagnose electrical issues.
  • Assist with inspecting, testing, and maintaining electrical distribution systems, lighting, power outlets, and equipment connections.
  • Help install and maintain building electrical systems including lighting fixtures, circuit breakers, transformers, and control panels.
  • Participate in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation.
  • Document electrical work performed, materials used, and system modifications in facility management systems.
  • Support energy efficiency initiatives through learning about LED retrofits, lighting controls, and efficient electrical system design.
  • Attend regular safety training and strictly adhere to electrical safety protocols and NEC standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand how electrical systems integrate with other building infrastructure components.
  • Participate in comprehensive safety and electrical training programs, both in production environments and classroom settings, to ensure compliance with industry standards and workplace safety protocols.

What this job involves:

This internship position provides comprehensive hands-on training and development for individuals pursuing a career in commercial and industrial electrical systems. Desired experience and technical skills:
Requirements:
  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed education in electrical technology, electrical engineering, or related technical field

Preferred:
  • Previous experience or exposure to electrical work in residential, commercial, or industrial settings
  • Familiarity with electrical codes and standards (NEC, NFPA)
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and digital systems
  • Knowledge of building automation or control systems
  • Experience reading electrical schematics or technical diagrams
  • OSHA 10-hour certification or other relevant safety training
  • Interest in pursuing apprenticeship or certification in the electrical field
