The hourly rate for this position ranges from $33.65 to $40.00. The final offer will be commensurate with the candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.

Purpose of Position

Manages campus-wide electrical operations by overseeing electrical systems, power distribution infrastructure, lighting, and specialized equipment. Supervises electrical personnel; ensuring compliance with applicable codes and safety standards. Coordinates maintenance, repairs, renovations, new installations, and work order activities. Supports university operations by managing electrical services for campus events and emergency response needs.

Essential Functions
  • Provides leadership and oversight for the Electrical Shop by supervising and developing staff, monitoring performance, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and electrical codes, and maintaining quality standards.
  • Oversees electrical construction, maintenance, and repair projects.
  • Coordinates with contractors, vendors, campus stakeholders while managing work orders, personnel administration, and related operations to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable electrical services across the university.
  • Oversees budgeting, forecasting, and resource planning for the Electrical Shop by developing budgets, monitoring expenditures, preparing cost estimates for electrical projects, supporting long-term infrastructure planning, and managing inventory and procurement to ensure efficient, cost-effective operations and strategic resource utilization.
  • Estimates and manages electrical projects for research facilities, campus renovations, and infrastructure upgrades by preparing cost and labor estimates, developing electrical layouts, ensuring compliance with NEC and university standards, coordinating with campus stakeholders throughout project planning and execution, and maintaining accurate project, inventory, and procurement records.
  • Provides expert oversight of campus electrical systems by directing the maintenance, repair, inspection, testing, and troubleshooting of high- and low-voltage infrastructure.
  • Designs electrical layouts for renovations and new installations, interprets technical drawings and specifications, and ensures electrical distribution systems, substations, generators, transformers, switchgear, lighting systems, and related equipment are maintained and operated in compliance with applicable codes, safety standards, and university requirements.
  • Provides 24/7 emergency response for campus electrical systems by assessing and resolving electrical outages, fires, flooding, icy conditions, and other critical incidents.
  • Utilizes extensive knowledge of the campus electrical distribution network to diagnose issues, implement corrective actions, restore services, communicate status updates to stakeholders, and operate university vehicles to respond to emergencies while maintaining safety and operational continuity.
  • Assists with the installation, setup, and support of temporary and permanent electrical services for campus events by coordinating with event organizers and Facilities Management, ensuring compliance with electrical and safety standards, and providing technical support and troubleshooting to maintain reliable power distribution and uninterrupted event operations.
  • Completes and maintains all required training, certifications, and continuing education to ensure compliance with university policies, safety regulations, and industry standards.
  • Maintains proficiency in electrical systems, hazardous materials, security awareness, driver and equipment operation, first aid/CPR, NFPA 70 requirements, and other job-related competencies necessary to support safe and effective operations.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, a valid electrical Master's license, and a Texas class "C" operator's driver's license with three (3) years of acceptable driving history
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) years experience as a licensed Master Electrician with experience leading teams, managing timelines, overseeing projects to completion, and working with high voltage (1000 volts and higher)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to quickly identify and fix electrical issues.
  • Ability to safely operate one-man lifts, boom lifts, bucket trucks, and scissor lifts.
  • Skilled in using electrical meters and diagnostic equipment.
  • Familiarity with computer-based work order systems.
  • Comprehensive understanding of electrical materials and components.
  • Proficient with hand and power tools typical of the electrical trade.
  • High level of alertness and attention to safety to prevent injury to self and others.
Work Schedule
  • Monday through Friday; 8:00am through 4:30pm
  • This is an essential position; incumbent may be required to report to work during emergencies or when essential personnel are needed on campus.
  • Participation in 24/7 on-call rotation for system availability.
  • Requires occasional evening or weekend hours
