Job summary

Georgia Power, a unit of Southern Company, seeks an electrically skilled technician to perform maintenance on power plant equipment, including energized work and preventative tasks. The role requires a 2-year electrical technical degree and at least two years of Journeyman Electrician experience, with strong safety awareness and ability to read drawings.

  • Ability to use powered and non-powered hand tools proficiently is required.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions is required.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Ability to plan work to maximize production—basic electronics, instrumentation and control systems are preferred.
  • Fundamental knowledge of motors, controllers, switchgear, relays, transformers, generators, and AC/DC systems is required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications is desired

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical maintenance on plant equipment, including energized and de-energized work.
  • Plan work and follow procedures/prints to install and maintain equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on plant equipment.
  • Assemble and disassemble components using proper rigging and lifting techniques.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and use electrical test equipment.
  • Maintain plant maintenance records in Maximo® and ensure compliance with permits and regulations.
  • Work safely and contribute to a safe work environment.

Job description

This position is responsible for performing electrical maintenance, which includes, but is not limited to, maintaining and/or repairing power plant equipment; working on both energized and de-energized equipment; planning work and following procedures/prints to install and maintain equipment; performing preventative maintenance on plant equipment; performing assembly and disassembly of components using proper rigging and lifting techniques; troubleshooting equipment; properly using electrical test equipment; communicating with plant supervision, plant operations personnel, and/or plant maintenance personnel; and responding to call outs in the event work is required after normal working hours. In addition, these positions will maintain plant maintenance records in the Maximo® computer-based work order system and ensure all work complies with environmental permits and regulations. The incumbents are expected to perform all work safely and with the utmost concern for their personal safety and the safety of other employees.

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills are required.

Ability to plan work to maximize production is required—basic electronics, instrumentation, program configuration, distributed/process control systems, PLC's, and DCS, and is preferred.

Fundamental knowledge of motors, controllers, switchgear, relays, transformers, generators, and AC/DC systems is required.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office computer applications is desired

Other Requirements

Qualifying on pre-employment tests is required, including an aptitude test, a Journeyman electrician knowledge test, a Journeyman electrician performance skills test, and a physical abilities test.

Ability to perform physically demanding activities (i.e., walking, climbing ladders, lifting heavy equipment) while working safely in all types of weather.

Support a 24/7 schedule, including holiday and backshift work, when necessary.
