Job summary

Southern Company Services in the United States seeks an electrical engineer to provide technical services for fossil and hydroelectric generating facilities, including problem resolution, testing, design review, and startup of new equipment.

The role supports several generation sites in the central region of Georgia with about 25% overnight travel; relocation assistance available; you will work closely with plant staff and other engineers to deliver safe, reliable energy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Engineer) or Engineering Technology (Analyst).
  • Customer oriented work ethic.
  • Broad general knowledge of power plant systems.
  • Proficiency in excitation system calibration and problem resolution.
  • Proficiency in switchgear concepts, designs and control.
  • Working knowledge of protective relaying applications.
  • Ability to communicate with plant employees at all levels.
  • Ability to manage time and multiple assignments simultaneously.

Job description

JOB SUMMARY

The purpose of this job is to provide technical services in the electrical discipline to fossil and hydroelectric generating facilities within the Southern Company. These services include but are not limited to problem resolution, routine testing, design review, checkout and startup of new equipment, technical consulting, and unplanned/emergency callouts (afterhours).

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS (LOCATION & TRAVEL)
  • This position will support several generation sites in the central region of Georgia.
  • Occasional overnight travel will be required – approximately 25%.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Engineer) ORBachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology (Analyst)
  • Customer oriented work ethic
  • Broad general knowledge of power plant systems
  • Proficiency in excitation system calibration and problem resolution
  • Proficiency in low, medium, and high voltage switchgear concepts and designs
  • Proficiency in switchgear electrical control and applications
  • Working knowledge of protective relaying application and philosophy
  • Ability to communicate with plant employees at all working and management levels
  • Ability to manage time properly and handle multiple assignments simultaneously
Experience:

  • Establish a precedent for solving technical problems in a timely and cost effective manner
