Job summary

Ysleta Independent School District is seeking an experienced electrician to maintain, repair, and install electrical systems, services, and equipment across district facilities. Duties include ensuring safe operation of all fixtures and systems and adhering to code requirements.

The role requires reading blueprints and specifications, diagnosing problems with testing instruments, and performing preventive maintenance.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Three (3) years of experience in electrical field.
  • Valid Texas journeyman electrician license issued by TDLR; master electrician license preferred.
  • Texas/NM driver’s license; insurable by district auto liability insurer.

Responsibilities

  • Install and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, power equipment, and components following electrical code, manuals, specifications, schematics, and blueprints; recommend replacement when necessary.
  • Diagnose and resolve problems in electrical circuits, systems, and equipment using testing instruments.
  • Receive, prioritize, and complete work orders in a timely manner; allow time for emergency situations as needed.
  • Select material and hardware and make time and material estimates; maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
  • Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials; perform preventive maintenance and ensure safe operation.

Job description

Summary Maintain, repair, and install electrical system, services, and equipment for the district. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all electrical fixtures and systems in district facilities.

Essential Functions
  • Install and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, power equipment, components of machinery, and equipment following electrical code, manuals, specifications, schematics, and blueprints. Recommend replacement when necessary.
  • Diagnose and resolve problems in electrical circuits, systems, and equipment using testing instruments and equipment.
  • Receive, prioritize, and complete work orders in a timely manner; allow time for emergency situations as needed.
  • Select material and hardware and make time and material estimates. Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
  • Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials. Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment. Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, operating a district vehicle, tools, and equipment, etc.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on all electrical equipment and fixtures.
  • Responsible for assuring jobs meet code compliance.
  • Attendance at the work site is required to meet essential functions of the job.
Other Responsibilities
  • Make routine decisions under general supervision in accordance with established priorities and policies.
  • Participate in professional development activities as required by the district.
  • Follow established safety procedures to perform job duties; support district/department goals.
  • Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

High school diploma or General Education Diploma {GED); three (3) years of experience in electrical field; Certification/License: Valid Texas journeyman electrician license issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR); master electrician license preferred; Texas/New Mexico driver\'s license; insurable by the district\'s auto liability insurance carrier. Subject to district drug and alcohol testing policy and regulation. Have knowledge of electrical circuits and wiring, local electrical codes; ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material; perform mathematical calculations; diagnose and resolve problems; use hand and power tools: benders and threaders; trencher; jackhammer; concrete saw. Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent district-wide travel. Must be able to lift, carry, push and/or pull up to fifty (50) pounds frequently; work under all weather conditions; exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals, and loud noises; be adaptable to work a shift schedule and/or hours other than regularly assigned; extended periods of walking, standing, bending, reaching, climbing, kneeling, stooping, heavy lifting, and carrying. Work outside and around/on ladders, scaffolding, moving objects, or vehicles. Possible exposure to insects; ability to work around pesticides and herbicides or other potentially hazardous materials in a safe manner. Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, around gas lines and fumes, and toxic chemicals, inside and outside.
