Job summary

Spherion Utah is seeking a licensed Journeyman Electrician with strong commercial experience and clean-energy focus to join our field team in Utah. You will lead on high-level electrical installations including solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems, with travel across Utah and nearby states.

Responsibilities include setting up switchgear, wiring BESS, and mentoring apprentices while maintaining NFPA 70E/OSHA safety standards. A Utah journeyman license and 4+ years' experience are required.

Qualifications

• Active Journeyman Electrician License in Utah.
• 4+ years of experience in commercial or industrial electrical systems.
• Direct experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), solar PV, or industrial control panels.
• Expert ability to read single-line diagrams, three-line schematics, and blueprint specs.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC)—Articles 480, 690, 705, 706.

Responsibilities

• System Installation: Set, align, and land connections on 480V/208V switchgear and distribution equipment.
• BESS & Renewable Integration: Install and troubleshoot BESS, PCS, and high-voltage DC solar arrays.
• Conduit & Cabling: Bend and install EMT and RMC conduit up to 4" with feeder cables and tray runs.
• Controls & Automation: Wire and troubleshoot control panels, MCCs, and metering circuits from schematics.
• Testing & Commissioning: Perform Megger insulation tests, phase rotation checks, and energization protocols.
• Site Leadership: Mentor apprentices, conduct safety planning, and enforce NFPA 70E / OSHA standards.

Job Title: Commercial Journeyman Electrician – Solar & Energy Storage Systems

Job Type: Full-Time | On-Site

Location: Based out of our Salt Lake City, UT Headquarters, with work on customer installation sites throughout Utah and other nearby states..

• Travel: Position requires 50%–75% travel to regional commercial and industrial installation sites.

About the Role

We are seeking a licensed Journeyman Electrician with strong commercial experience and specialized expertise in clean-energy power systems to join our field team. In this role, you will work directly on high-level electrical infrastructure, including commercial power distribution, solar PV, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

Role Overview

You will lead complex field installations, from main switchgear settings to final BESS commissioning. You’ll work directly with commercial power systems, step-up/step-down transformers, solar inverters, and custom control wiring while ensuring strict code compliance and site safety.

Key Responsibilities

• System Installation: Set, align, and land connections on commercial 480V/208V switchgear, transformers, switchboards, and distribution equipment.
• BESS & Renewable Integration: Install, wire, and troubleshoot commercial Battery Energy Storage Systems, power conversion systems (PCS), and high-voltage DC solar arrays.
• Conduit & Cabling: Precision bending and installation of EMT and Rigid (RMC) conduit up to 4", along with heavy feeder cable pulls and tray runs.
• Controls & Automation: Wire, wire-tag, and troubleshoot complex control panels, PLCs, motor control centers (MCCs), and CT/PT metering circuits using single/three-line schematics.
• Testing & Commissioning: Conduct insulation resistance (Megger) testing, phase rotation verification, point-to-point checkouts, and system energization protocols.
• Site Leadership: Guide and mentor apprentices on-site, conduct pre-task safety planning, and enforce NFPA 70E / OSHA compliance.

Required Qualifications

• Active Journeyman Electrician License in Utah.
• 4+ years of experience in commercial or industrial electrical systems.
• Direct experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), solar PV, or industrial control panels.
• Expert ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams, three-line schematics, and blueprint specs.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC)—specifically Articles 480, 690, 705, and 706.
• Active OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
• Strong troubleshooting skills using digital multimeters, megohmeters, and phase rotation meters.
• Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record.

Work Authorization

Applicants must already have the legal authorization to work in the US without requiring any employer sponsorship.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to safely lift, push, pull, and carry objects weighing up to 60 lbs.
• Comfortable working on ladders, scaffolding and at elevated heights.
• Comfortable operating or learning to operate specialized equipment (scissor lifts, boom lifts, etc.).
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English required.

Preferred Qualifications

• NFPA 70E Arc Flash Safety certification.
• Experience operating scissor lifts, boom lifts, and heavy rigging equipment.
