Job Title: Electrician Journeyman
Department: Buildings and Grounds
Reports To: Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds
Pay Rate: $30.30/hr.

Job Function:
The Electrician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems across MATA’s facilities and equipment. This includes troubleshooting malfunctions, performing general building repairs, and ensuring all work complies with FTA standards and safety regulations. The Electrician plays a vital role in supporting operational readiness by maintaining bus lifting systems, facility lighting, and HVAC-related systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Install, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical systems and related equipment across MATA facilities.
- Rebuild and rewire electrical components and controls as needed.
- Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and diagrams to complete repairs accurately.
- Diagnose issues in facility motors, HVAC systems, lighting, and electrical panels.
- Perform general building maintenance including minor heating and air conditioning repairs.
- Service and maintain specialized transit equipment such as bus lifts, fare collection systems, and destination signs.
- Maintain detailed and accurate service and maintenance records in accordance with departmental protocols.
Additional Responsibilities
- Pick up and transport parts and materials from vendors and warehouses as needed.
- Maintain a current and valid Journeyman Electrician License through employment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of Buildings and Grounds.
Minimum Qualifications
Education & License:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must hold a valid Journeyman Electrician License.
Other Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on electrical experience.
- Experience with HVAC systems is preferred.
- Familiarity with diagnosing and troubleshooting air and hydraulic systems.
Skills & Requirements:
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- Ability to read and interpret maintenance manuals, schematics, and technical diagrams.
- Capable of preparing work orders and service documentation accurately.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
- Frequent walking, standing, and lifting (up to 50 lbs.).
- Ability to lift and position materials overhead and work in confined spaces.
- Must tolerate exposure to loud noise, fumes, dust, weather elements, and chemicals (e.g., Freon).
- Requires climbing ladders, accessing rooftops, crawling under vehicles, and working at heights.
- Must be able to hear verbal instructions and visually perform repair tasks.
