Job description

Description SUMMARY: Plan, layout, install, and repair wiring, conduit, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment or follows diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of walls, ceilings, and flooring.
2. Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit using tools such as hacksaws, pipe threaders, rules, and conduit benders.
3. Pulls wiring through conduit, assisted by helper.
4. Splices wires by stripping insulation, twisting or soldering wires, and applying tape or terminal caps.
5. Connects wiring to fixtures and equipment using hand tools.
6. Installs control and distribution apparatus like switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels, securing them with crews or bolts.
7. Connects power cables and installs grounding leads.
8. Tests circuit continuity with instruments such as ohmmeters, batteries, buzzers, and oscilloscopes.
9. Observes system functioning to identify hazards and adjustments needed.
10. Disassembles and repairs defective electrical systems.
11. Loads, transports, and unloads materials, tools, and supplies.
12. Maintains tools and equipment.
13. Must be able to distinguish colors.
14. Knowledge of procedures such as Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).
15. Observes safety and project rules.
16. Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications:

Long-term maintenance project with no per diem. May require a high school diploma or equivalent and relevant experience. Relies on instructions and guidelines, works under supervision, with some independent judgment. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
